its sitting on the gas tank hump...heres a pic...I would think it has plenty of air, and the ground is good, i already checked that.

i cant tell if im seeing this incorrectly, but is your ground smaller than your power wire? if so i would SERIOUSLY recommend changing that.

im not sure on the overheating thing, but im not a big fan of JBL, so i wouldnt be able to help much.

If the car was in the sun it can get that aluminum up to around 180+ degrees, which can be out of the heat range of the amp, try getting some type of cover for it or not parking it in the sun

ok, first the ground is the same size, its just the way the picture is taken. Second, I have to park in the sun, so I will try to get a cover...but wont it get hot under the cover still?

Try to figure out how to run a fan on it if the cover thing doesn't help.

Ya it will still get really warm. As warm as the inside of your car. The fact that it will be out of direct sunlight will keep it much cooler.

I have two amps in mine and the one that sits in about the same place has trouble if I leave the car parked in the sun during the summer. The JBL sits below the deck lid and I haven't ever had a problem. Tinting the back glass can help, or maybe you want to get a cargo area cover.

I threw a white shirt over the amp for now and it works fine. I am going to build an amp box once I get the distribution block and the highs amp installed. I'll run some fans and things should be fine I hope. On the box though...I want it to have a smooth painted surface when done...so what do I put over the wood to make it smooth? wood filler or body filler or what?

If you use MDF, it will be flat anyway. Body filler and wood filler are basicly the same stuff, and work in the same way. I would use the body filler as it's meant for use in a car enviornment and wood filler is meant for tables and chairs and stuff that stays in a temperature regulated enviornment.
