Bass Blockers Help!!

I read the other post about these bass blockers and it confused me alot. I have 4X6 pioneers in the dash and pioneer 6x9's in the pillars. What size capacitor should I get. The guy at radio shack said that it would be bad for your system to run capacitors. I also have 2 12' subs so all I really want the 4x6/6x9's for is treble. The actual voice/sound not the bass. At high volume the 6x9's and 4x6's break up tremendously. Any help would be greatly appreciated if you want too catch me on aim:jlb52758 and you can talk directly with me.

not every Radio Shack employee knows about electronics. it actually tends to be that they are clueless about their products. so for the most part, i consider their input void. because if they did know their products, they would realize the passive crossovers on their very own shelves consist of capacitors. moving on.... it depends on what frequency you want the cut off point to be and the ohm rating of the speaker. since its mass market car audio equipment, i'm going to assume (seeing 90+% of them are) your speakers are 4 ohms. i do not have the formula on hand, but im sure someone else around here could crunch the numbers for you. but, my main point, when wired correctly, a bass blocker / cap is completely harmless and a useful item. there also is another type of capacitor (the one you usually hear refered to in car audio), but no need to throw too much at you at once.

true, I've run into people at stereo shops who don't have a clue about electronics.

Not to sound offended but not everyone at Radioshack is a moron. Unfortunately the company just mostly hires morons. For those of us that do know what we are doing, we have to fix all of the mistakes that our co-workers make (which by the way is REAL fun) just saying that not all of us are morons but most of my co-workers are (thank *** i'm quitting soon!)

anyways that formula that you are talking about is the f= 1 over 2xPixFxC formula. Which is that the frequency is equal to F= the frequency that you want killed(or everything below that frequency) and C is the capacitor that you are using. That will give you what you need if used correctly. So if you think that your speakers are running @ 4 ohms then by using the formula you can figure out what Cap you need to get depending on what frequency's you want to have killed. I'm guessing you want anything under about 500 hz killed which would be a good bass blocker. or even 250 hz depending upon the application

we sell bass blockers at best buy. the ones we usually use for 4x6s are the 200 hz ones. they work great. the 6x9s would probably be good with 100 hz give or take.

87t - trust me, i know some of you guys are great. just like any company, there are good apples and bad apples. didnt mean to offend you. heck, i even was in the process of getting hired there. i work for a car parts chain. i hear allll the time about recommending the right and wrong parts from others. something i've learned: dont lie if you dont know what you're talking about. i have no problem asking others for pointers or answers, but i do not have respect for people who blatently lie. but yeah, i do find it funny at any store to ask for something, be told they dont carry it, and then find in on the shelf 2 sec later.

so, didnt mean to offend you if i did. and thanks for being one of the intelligent RS guys, we need more of ya

none taken i know what everyone means when they say it. because it's the truth most of the people i work with are complete morons and they'll do exactly what your talking about. "uh... im sorry sir we dont have that." then i know we have it and i'll watch as the customer walks straight towards it and says "hmm... thats odd i thought you didnt have it?" Then i laugh a little inside as my moronic co-worker tries to stammer out an explanationas to why he is wrong about it. LOL its great. Then again it helps i guess that i went to school for electronics so i have an upper hand on someone who comes into the store looking for a potentiometer. Most people i work with are like "what in the hell is a potentiometer??" That and im guessing im capable of applying more than 10% of my brain at work for some reason my coworkers havent figured that part out yet. Ah the life of a competent Radioshack employee.....What a life.....LOL. But im sure everyone has something like that at their job. It's just most aparent with Radioshack because its the largest company (over 7,000 company owned stores and over 2,000 franchised stores) in the US of A.

LMAO....I used to work for RS too. I myself knew wut the hell I was doin, I'm a navy Electronics Technician. It was funny my managers would send people to me to ask questions about stuff they had no clue about. And they had been with the company over 10 years...LOL. And btw, it's not minimum wage, it's worse than that. And the guy who has no clue is just tryin to get ya to buy something, how about a cell phone?, Satellite dish perhaps? Then you quietly think to yourself, nope I know wut I need and thats not it....
As for those caps at best buy...short of doing the math, ya coulda just given us the farad rating off of them so we could go buy are own. Wait is'nt Best Buy commision based too?...LOL

btw I'm jk
