If I made a fiberglass well box would anyone be interested?

Hello,

I'm putting together my next system and trying to showcase the products I sell. I want to run more than a single 10" though, so I won't be using a stealthbox. I'm considering designing a fiberglass well box that would be similar to the current wood design but with more airspace and a better looking (contoured) top plate.

If I made a box like this starting at around $200 plus shipping would anyone be interested in it?

BTW, massive site updates are underway including a shopping cart type of purchasing system and new product updates. Look for a post about it in the weeks to come

I'd like to know more about it...fiberglassing (as i just found out is not that easy) so yeah that would be cool. I like your stealth box...but can't see me putting that in mine. What I was looking at and wondering if you ever would make something like this is a single subwoofer box for the small portion of the well...which can be covered by a false board to make it look like nothing is there. Ever given thought to that? Well still like the fiberglass idea...so i look forward to hearing more! Thanks...

I thought about a box down in the lower part, but there isn't much airspace in there. If a few more people want something like that then I might make it. The fiberglass well box will probably weigh about 20lbs and have about 2.5 cu.ft. total airspace. It will be able to fit more subs though because of the way the top will be formed. I think I'll have to make mine and then post pics later so you can get a better idea of what I mean. I have to make at least one for my car anyway whether they're mass-produced or not.

fiberglass box

I would go for one that would house 2 12's..
Is there anyway you could make a bandpass box for third gens or is there a lack of airspace ?
THANKS

I'm sure 3 12's are possible. I'll have to see if that works within the space I'm trying to use though. I still want the option of people using their T-top straps if possible.

Bandpass is possible too, but I wouldn't want to mass produce them because they are so sensitive to the specific parameters of each make/model of sub. It might sound great with a JLW3 and terrible with a Kicker L7.

I would be interested...any way to do a ported version of the box? I am looking for something to put my Kicker Comp VRs in..they need a lot of airspace... 1.75 cubic feet each with a port is ideal...

Ported would be possible too. I probably won't have the first one done until December unfortunately. I'll be happy if my system is up and running by next March

I would be interested in your fiberglass box since it has to weigh somewhat less than the MDF (you would think). I mean I need a little weight back there for traction, but I don't want to get stupid with it either.

I have an Alpine SWR-1041D Type R 10" sub with dual voice coils and 200W RMS to power it. I need to know what type of enclosure/mounting will make this thing sound best. Upfiring, down firing, bandpass, etc... Any recommendations as to mounting style and Crossover cutoff point for the Subwoofer????

The complimentary speakers are Boston Accoustic RM-6 6-1/2" up front (location to be determined) that have a response of 55hz to 20K hz and handle 50W RMS and Boston Accoustic RM9 6"x9" that have a frequency response of 35hz to 20K hz with 55W RMS power handling. My amp is rated for 50W RMS to each speaker and 200W RMS to the sub (actual included factory tests indicate 55.5W/207.4W).

The crossover point just depends on what sounds best in your car with your equipment. It's typically between 90-120 Hz for a 10". I wouldn't build a bandpass unless you have a software program to design it. A sealed or ported box would be good. Firing up or down isn't going to make much difference in sound. It's mostly done for looks.

As for your lower level box, is there enough airspace there for one 10" sub? I would like to keep some what of the cargo area if possible.

most definately there is room. here are my 2 kicker solobaric 10L7 they are running 1.2 cu ft to each side so 2.4 for both. These speaker can run on .90 in a sealed box. so cut this in half. hope this helps

That would be interesting... I've been trying to figure out if I could squeeze as much as 3cuft out of a fiberglass box in the back for a single 15" Elemental Designs sub I've been eyeing. Would you be tailoring these boxes to the individual uses (ie a single 15, 2 12s, 3 10s or whatever)? But the idea is definitely interesting... I don't know if I trust my fiberglassing skills just yet

just to let you know my current box is made by pro box. http://www.proboxrocks.com/ it's there 2 12 box. i have a shop make me a new top for the kickers. I don't have any of my tools here to build so i had to get some help. Another thing i worked it out once i think you can get 3 to 3.5 out of the back. I had some help from some people at JL audio help me on that one. hope this helps

It's definately possible. A few years back I made a fiberglass box for a 15" that sits flush with the rear deck. It's about 2.5-3.0 cu. ft if I remember right. I'm not using it right now, so it's just sitting in my basement. I could probably get some pics if you'd like

Actually, it would be very cool to see some pics. I'd be thrilled if I could keep it flush with the rear, I thought I'd be forced to build it up lke crazy.
