YES! if you had a question about "do fiberglass boxes sound better then wooden ones" I mean think about it, in wood, your sound waves are obsorbed by the soft wood when they can be easily bouncing off the hard surface of fiberglass. If ya didnt catch it, just take it from me, it sounds better. I have one sub facing down (forgot the tech word for that, someone say it please) and one facing right side up. My box doesnt have seperated air space, so this way both subs are pushing air correctly. The air from the down faced speaker pushes air into the box and also pushes the other speaker up. This way they arnt fighting with air pressure, they are using air presure to help move the other speaker in the right dirrection. If you dont get it by now umm just try it. It made my spakers sound about 50% louder, no joke.
LOL! I finished it at my Mom's Boyfriends uphostery shop, "Can do Uphostery" They do good work btw, honestly. Well I turned up the subs on this song my brother gave me and OMG! The items on the walls were shaking, florecent lights and metal stuff above me shook, tool boxs were shaking with tools lol. Its hard to beleive that these 10" speakers are pushing this hard, but they are. Maybe its the Fiberglass box. Does sound alot better then the wooden truck box that those speakers were in.
If you look in the web page I will list, you will notice this fiberglass box took 300 bucks to make. Big chunk of change for about everything, well I bought a 50.00 edge grinder to work on it so thats part of the expence. You might be able to get buy making one for 200 with a wood top, orignally this one had a plexi glass top that cracked before I got to use it. Wasnt thick enough anyway, maybe, I'll get another someday. OK! Enough typing, here are the pix you would rather see then read about. lol
I will be updating this page often btw, system page

Man, it has been forever since you finished that thing. Glad to see you are finally able to use it. If you finished it at an uphostery shop how come you didnt match the colors?

lol yea its been a long time. Well for now I like the gloss black look of the painted metal. Its kinda hard to see it in those pix for some reason, if you go to the web site link about you might be able to see it better. I still want to do the clear plexi glass Idea but Its hard to find a store that sells thick plexi sheets. I figure I'm gonna have to special order it over the net and that might take forever. But WORTH IT! lol

Nice w3s. How does it sound? Good i would think. Are you getting enough power to those bad boys? Looks awsome btw. Can you tell a diff with one inverted like the one on the drivers side? Ive wanted to experiment with that kind of a set up(inverted) but havent had tiem to flip my JBL's over.

Just a guess, but if the speakers sound better with one up and one down, my guess is that one of the speakers is wired backwards. How are they wired up? Try this: flip one of the speakers over so they are both the same and swap the wires(pos to neg, neg to pos) on one speaker.... See how it sounds.
AFAIK, with the speakers wired correctly with one up and one down they will cancel each other out. Double check the speaker wire to be absolutely sure..
Congrats on the fiberglass box, it really does look good. Any pics inside the box?

Bout the fliped one. lol I'm still trying to think of the technical word for that. Downsomething... *srugs* Well I kinda have it still fliped because I like the way it looks and figure there is some kinda tecnical logic to having a speaker push air down into the box and the other pushing air out with the help of the other speaker's air pressure forcing into the box.
Does wireing them backwards sound better? LOL!! OMG YES!!! LIke the dude above said, just flip a speaker and wire it up. See how it sounds, then reverse the positive and negative on that speaker and listen to it. On mine there is a HUGE! Difference! I mean... literally 40-50% louder cleaner bass. I dont think I would divide the air space, well maybe.. umm with a different box just to compare the difference, but I like it the way it is.
I just bridged the two speakers at the amp and made it even louder. Are they getting enough power? lol well.. I'm suprised they are holding up! And sounding clean at that! I mean.. with the reversed plolarity and the bridged amp in a fiberglass box, They are sounding amazing for some 100w rms 10" speakers. These JBLs sound better then my old 300W RMS cerwin vegas. Doesnt seem cerwin put to much into that particular model speaker... the wires touched at the back of the cone and took down my my audio system, everthing fried cept the stereo.
I think the fiberglass box is helping alot, and thats a big part in the loudness to my system. When I was building the box I had an edge grinder sanding down some layers from the inside and it made this extreamly loud bass vibration lol and I mean it was LOUD! So I figure just the aspects of it being fiberglass, it basses harder, and another + for a sports car, ITS LIGHTER THEN WOOD!!!!
!! I'll be making another when I can pull the money together for supplies and I'll stick it on ebay to see how it sells.

It's refered to as 'downfire.' I do like the box though. Excellent job! I'm still working on fiberglass doorpanels right now, I'll start on my sub box in the spring time.

HEY!
You ppl who keep checking "There are a few things I would change" well... What are those few things?
I think there are a few things I would change to.. if I can ever find a big slab of thick plexi glass for cheap. Hmm... for now I might play around with more fiberglass and just put some weird designs on the top of the box, like something lifting the sub up, angling it all with some kinda rounded shape and painted gloss something.

LOOKIT! I just found a pic of my dream design before I started glassing this box together. In the end, this is kinda what I want it to look like.

i'd like to see it in normal light.....?
what is the real advantage/disadvantage with "downfire"?
i think the lights would look 100% better if you could find a way to hide the tubes....neon is best seen as it glows.
looks good though.

downfire I would imagine doesnt do anything, reversing the polarity on shared air space, now that does good stuff
