Suggestions for a basic system

I have $400 to spend, I'm not going for show or even performance... I just a very basic sound system CD player and some speakers... I was wonderinf if you guys could give me some direction in what I could do... I'll deffinitly go with a Pioneer reciever... but as far as speakers go I'm lost... I do want a little kick when it comes to bass but then again I'm stuck with a 400 cap... I'm rather new to audio so any help would be highly welcomed and thanks in advance

Well you could always get some decent 6x9s and a good deck and then get a 4x6s later...I dont remember but theres some good 4x6s with sepperate woofer and tweeter. I just threw some sony 6x9s in my car for now. But for 400 you should be able to get some good speakers+deck

what i would do is buy a pioneer head unit and then buy a cheap 4 channel amp and amplify your stock speakers. You'll be surprised how good the speakers can sound if you feed them some good clean watts

I got two 12's and an amp, Pioneer headunit and two 6x9's at a pawn shop for less than $400. Couldn't you get more for the money at a pawn shop?

I myself would go with a decent headunit & an inexpensive amp & subwoofer. use the HU to drive the stock speakers, the sub/amp combo will add a bit of kick.

an example from Crutchfield:

Clarion DB336MP _CD/MP3 Receiver $200
US acoustics USP-200 _65W x 2 Car Amp •160 watts RMS x 1 bridged $50
Bazooka EL804 _8" Tube-style Subwoofer $150

Not overly powerful, bbut the amp will easily drive the Bazooka Tube... Bazooka tubes perform pretty decent in the "well" of our trunks.

the only problem with pawn shops is there's a good chance that their merchandise is stolen. And if people keep buying stolen equipment there will continue to be a market for it, and sooner or later yours will get ripped off too.
