Best 5 1/4" speaker?

Hey guys, just curious what you all think the best 5 1/4" speaker is? I need best dollar per decibel here, i want to get 4 of them for my girlfriends car, she has a changer and a pioneer (basic) head unit. Should i get an amp? I will not be haveing subs, so i would appreciate something that has soem nice all around balance (plenty of lows and mid too).
Thanks
mike

High db doesnt always mean sound good. Sound quaility is more important for that size. And you will need an amp. 5.25 isnt really good for bass. 6.5 would be better, but still not a substitute for a sub.

10-4. Any suggestions on the best available sound quality per dollar speaker AND amp wise? It's not a competition kinda setup obviously, just something that will make the music sound good with the windows down. I assume i would need a 4 channel amp since there are 4 speakers.

Well best=$$$$. For a good set of componets, expect to pay a few hundred for a set. Drop by a stereo shop and listen to a few sets to get an idea of what they sound like. You can get away with a 2 channel amp, but you wont have fader control.

Everybody here has different opinions of what sounds good, and at the cheap price level of your typical coaxial speaker, sound quality will vary WILDLY from one to the next. You need to listen for yourself and decide what sounds good to you.

I agree with Jim, IMHO Scanspeak makes some of the best, as well as Focal...but get ready to shell out some bucks.

you're not kidding about shelling out bucks for the scanspeak.

I'm building a peerless/LPG combo for my friend's BMW and I'm anxious to see how it sounds compared to all the overpriced commercial crap that I'm used to hearing. I have a feeling the Diamonds in my IROC might be getting yanked in favor of some Peerless or Viva mids and the LPG tweets.
