Has anybody found a quick easy solution to cure these rattles. My stereo sounds pretty good, but on "lower" bass notes, the stupid car rattles making it sound like my speakers just start farting.
I'm thinking that I should just line as much of the speaker bay as I can with dynamat, and make sure everything is tight. Is there a better way to stop these rattles for good?

Also I know for 4x6's they have bass blockers, is there anything along these lines for a 6x9 to prolong speaker life?

 

1, I'd get some dynomat or Second Skin to stop the rattles. Also, make sure the plastic screws holding the panels in back are on tight.

2, bass-blockers for 6x9's is really pretty much pointless. You can put them on, and it will filter whatever hz (100, 200, 300) you get, but 6x9's are designed for mid-bass. The bass blockers are for smaller speakers so you don't distort them.

 

If u have subs now, then get rid of the 6x9s and get some tweeters in there, or get a cross over to iliminate the woofer cone. Where the 6x9s sit there is no chance for any clear midrange and definitly no low range unless u use alot of the dynomat and kill ur rattles systimaticly.

If u have no subs, then it would still be cheaper to get a small bass tube and cross overs for the 6x9s, and this would get u all the ends of the music u want

 

The farting sound is usually the plastic vents in the door jambs, just take them off and rip out the rubber flaps. Definately dynamat behind the speakers, though. I wouldn't try to eliminate the midbass back there. I wouldn't put tweeters back there, either, unless you want your soundstage in the back seat. I currently have boston pro 6.5 components in the back, with the tweeters attenuated all the way down, and it's still a little too much, and that's with 6.5 3-way components in the doors and kicks. And my 6.5's don't rattle in the rear even with 350 RMS watts per channel through them and I haven't gotten around to dynamating behind them.

 

I dont know how many times i seen ppl say dynomat stops rattles,,,IT DOESN'T,,,,you could spend and install 1000$ worth of that and youll still have rattles.

Im not saying dynomat is bad, cause its not. Its used for keeping sound in your car.

Things that rattle are:
1- plastic parts with lose screws or missing clips. Or just on seams such as the rear door moldeing (beside sail panel) actually rattles on the sail panel.

2- metal plate holding your speaker on the car body is lose or missing screws

3- 6x9 itself is lose or missing screws

4- yes ive heard the rubber flapy thing flaps in the door vent,,some remove it or tape it down.

5- loose change that may have fell in your panels and are rattleing on the metal body.

6- door lock and handle rods inside the door.

crank up the sterio get in the back and start touching the plastic parts to see if the rattle stops....then take off the sail panels and start touching the speaker ring and the plate its attached to. get some peel and stick foam tape and start putting it on rattle areas.

If you want dynomat get it for different reasons the rattles from your panels

 

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was getting at, I don't have rattles with lots of midbass in the back and I haven't dynamatted, and I am only gonna do it for the reason you stated, to keep the music in the car and the road noise out.

 

i had this very problem w/ the plastic playes holding my pioneers rattling againist the body.
i could put a finger on them and stop it, and my vents rattled as well.
havent done anything to the vents my dad said same rip out the rubber i didnt think the rubber hittin plastic would rattle that way sounded more like plastic hitin plastic.
so i may rip out the rubber but i was goin to run a bead or caulk in it to seal it and seal it to the door jambs.
after removing the vent i could get my hand in behind the 6by9s and i stufed in some paper towels well one torn up n folded so it just went between the plate and metal.
worked great, i was goin to buy some stick on door weatherstripping for houses the foam kind w/ tape on back n use that but the paper towels worked. and my screws were torqued down and still rattled so i had to stuff them in there to stop it.
now i have to adress my subs makin my whole insides or my drivers side door rattling.
and the rest of the car rattling.

since i want to use it to try and avoid rattles but worried it would draw moisture.

i just put in 100 sq feet of fatmat or dynamat, same crap, it doesn't stop rattling but it shure does restrict it, if it might rattles as much but its not the same sound, so it would be less noticable, a deeper rattle that woudl be drounged out by the exhaust rather than a ting thats destrictive. I also had this 1/2" thick foam with aluminum foil that I put over the fatmat in certain areas and that made it even better. check out my page for details
