Installing a CD/Mp3 player in the roof?
I want to put my CD/MP3 player in my TA, however I don't want to get rid of the original casette player, so I was thinking, maybe I could put it in the roof, in the center behind the mirror.
I am wondering if there's some kind of console or something like that which I could mount in the roof and then mount the player in that, instead of just fixing the player to the roof, which would be horribly ugly.
Or do you know any alternate locations to put a CD player?
Though I think if done right the roof might yield a very good looking result.

a cd player up there will look pretty big and oddly placed but it can be don. in my taurus i wanted to leave the faceplate the way it was from the factory and i had an under the dash unit installed. you cant even tell i have a cd player when you look in the windows. here is the kit i used to mount mine under the dash. it looks pretty slick to.http://www.crutchfield.com/S-gzncwq1...=0&cc=01&avf=N

Man, I hope you didnt pay 24 dollars for that kit...that is a metra kit that costs no more than 12 to 15 bucks at any audio store.

Do you still use cassettes? Otherwise, why don't you simply keep the stock cassette player in your garage or closet?
At any rate, if you finally decide to mount the player in an abnormal position - I'd like to see pics!

I don't think that would work so well, because extending the wires like that would end up with higher resistances and possibly cause the unit to not even work, but maybe it would, and that would be pretty cool. But to put in a cd you have to get to the cd player...
He means just extend the "wires" on the face of a detachable-face cd player. Then mount the actual player under your seat or wherever... then run the wires up to your visor and mount the face with the display and junk.... I don't see it working.

I had heard about that before, but the guy had to buy an extra face to put in the visor and keep the other face on the cd player because it wouldnt work right because of the resistance like someone mentioned. It looked pretty tight though.
pioneer deh-6500
i did it with a pioneer deh-6500 and mounted mine int the center console i personally took out the whole thing and fibergalssed a new one and made it so the radio would fit worked great and had no problem. Let me try to explain a littlme more in englis i guess...... ok take the face plate off of your radio.. you see the metal prongs on the face plate and in the unit you take individual wires to each and you go one at a time from face plate to unit and mount the fae plate like a tv in your visor...... it will not work if you forget to set the pin there a pins in the radio when the face plate is up kinda like the thing on your washer that makes it stop when you open the lid easy setup awesome outcome... wish i had photos i kick myself every time i taslk about it!!! as far as resistance im not sure the deh-6500 didnt give me and trouble so any more questions let me know! good luck

you could probably fit it in the console face up...i did this in my last car and it worked quite well. I set up the rear view faced down so that i could see the deck. The only problem you may run into is the cd player might skip a bit more than usual as some manufacturers dont recommend mounting on any sort of angle, but my alpine was fine.
you could also try mounting it in the glovebox if you have one.

if you put the face in teh visor and the unit in the console then you wont have this huge thing on your roof and it wont block your mirrior. and it will be one that not many people have and thevies will not be a problem
