is this a good sub box idea?

i want my box to sit flush in my trunk and i want my two 12's to face down into the well of the trunk, so they wuold be installed at the bottom of the box and u wouldnt be able to see them, my current box i found, hit best when i have the subs facing down into the well (as i have it now) but the box was made for a ford escort so i have an awkard box sticking up from my trunk and it doesnt sit flush at all! so i got this picture made, pretend u are looking through the car from behind and give me your opinions.

and yes the subs would be over to the left a tad more in the real box because i think part of the car well would cover a sub but i need to measure and check.

also i think these would be the deminsions..

44" wide

9.5" down

the top of the box would be 16.25" wide and the bottom of the box would be 11.25" wide to accomodate the slant of the trunk

i hope this makes sense and plz reply!

I understand what you mean, i saw someone on here do that before.
Imo i think it would saound much better up then down but its your system, do it how you like.

well for a long while now ive always had it face up with a small slant and it soudned fine, but i was bored so i flipped it upside down and i KNOW it hits harder. so maybe my subs were more ment for a bandpass system which i kind of created by flipping it upside down.

but anyways, do u think a box by these dimensions will be too big?

and would a vented or sealed enclosure create the best hit? i like it to hit hard and vibrate my brain apart!

for a sealed box, it is recomended my subs get .75 cubic feet, and if its vented, it wants 1.35 CF port dia: 4" port length: 12"

This is a cool site with a ton of stuff to help on it.
Im not sure if it'll fit because i never reallt measured the well.
I've always been told and seems that its true that sealed = better sq and vented = better spl.

I also had my subs facing into the well in my old 91 RS when I was in high school. I had a sub box that looks like 95% of the sub boxes on here (slanted forward towards pass area facing up) and decided to try something. my box sat flat across the steps in the well, so I flipped it over and it sat perfect in there like it was made to fit that way. Anyway, it hit alot harder and also couldn't hear any distortion from the speakers (this is when I used cheaper equipment and didn't know any better )

When I design something for my T/A, it will either be a downfiring set-up or something in the storage bin area.

There was a fellow on here with a bird that did exactly that and swore (w/whitenesses) that it POUNDED! I searched a bit with no luck, hopefully someone will speak up that knows more about it. He even gave full dimensions on it

I have my mustang with 2hx2 10's facing towards teh rear of the trunk and it sound very nice. I have a friend with a fouth gen and 2 diamond m3 12"'s facing up and mine hits deaper. I have a bit more power though.

I may try to do this as well.

A. deeper bass most likely
b. no speakers to put grillson, punch holes in, or fade in th sun.

12's may be harder to fit doe to the width of the well. you may want to consider nice 10's

and a real pic of completed enclosure. I plan on using this style when I revamp my setup in the future.....looks like it works and looks good too.
