When u take those sail pannel covers off it looks like crap. I have always thought it might be cool to fab up some different fiberglass covers than the stock cloth ones. I have a set of components mounted in place of the 6X9's to do that i just took 1/4 piece of plywood and traced the 6x9 shape on it and cut out the mounting holes in appropriate spaces then made holes for my mid-woofer and tweeter. there is a pice of metal around the enclosure but you could probably trim to take a bigger speaker (u might be able to cram an 8" sub in there somehow) Also what size are those xplodes that u would need the sail panel off to begin with???? or do you just want em to be visible?? IMO sony speakers are not the best but i havent heard those and maybe they are ok for the price.

i had the full sony setup in my old jeep, it was garbage, all i run in my camaro now is pioneer hu and 4 way 6x9s, cerwin vega 4x6, kenwood 960 exceleon and 2 12" subs, way better then any sony mobile products ive ever dealt with, and this is with a mixed and matched system

Compared to almost anything in the same price range, the Sony coaxials don't cut the mustard. You can get stuff from Boston, Polk, Infinity, CDT, Alpine and a million other brands in the same price range (or only slightly more) that sound a hell of a lot better.

back to the original post...i've seen a few that cut a hole in the panel and install it that way. so the 6x9 presses the panel in more and is on top of it, looks clean but also like @ss.

as far as sony....run away...run far far away.

soundillusions

go here... ask about any speaker and i know u'll get a response

edit: isn't it odd that they can make a kick @*** gaming system but can't get some speakers right???
