Are all Sonys that bad?
I hear a lot of negative feedback on Sony's car audio products, and I want to know why? What facts are there underlying the negativity? I ask because I'm looking into a new headdeck, and the other day at BestBuy I found, what I thought, looked like a really nice one. It's a higher end Sony, the one with the full-face LCD screen, the flips around when you want to access all the buttons. Should I avoid it or does that only apply to their speakers?
If I don't get the Sony, I'm goin for an Alpine that MP3s.
I know model #s would help, but I don't know them, sorry!

My personal opinion about why people don't like Sony products is because there are better quality products out there for the same amount or even less. I would say get the alpine or a clarion if it is in your budget.

pioneer head units are some of the best units on the market. Sound Quality and Build Quality are excellent. I recommend them to everyone who askes me what they should do for a system. Clarion and Alpine would be a close second. I can also confirm the Pioneer's customer service is excellent.

"Are all Sonys that bad?" YES.!.!.!.!.!....
The thing your looking at at BBY is NOT a high end unit. It's just flashy. The ribbon cable to that fancy faceplate goes bad all the time, they skip, they get poor reception at best, so ya there that bad. (The preceding applies to Sony car audio)

Yes....
I installed wiring for an Xplode amp and the car already had an Xplode HU.
The amp was bad out of the box, all channels would pass the sound from any input, very distorted and weak too.
The HU had no output from the RCAs when in CD mode only....
This guy wants to buy another cheapo amp, but I already know he's going to need LOCs to connect the HU, and he should've learned from his first cheap stuff...
It's not worth it to go cheap, plenty of better stuff out there that doesn't cost much more.
I'm bench testing everything from now on!! Maybee just sony's if nothing else!
I could go on and on, XPLODE SUCKS!!

Actually, no, not all Sonys are terrible. But you have to spend a lot of money to get a good headunit from them. You're better off going with a different brand if you want to spend less for the same quality. If you're a Sony nut and you don't care about cost, yes, you can get a good HU.

I've never heard a sony that I liked. My friend used to have a new sony deck and it would shut off after about 10 minutes.I agree with pioneer decks are some of the best on the market,I have two and I love them. They have so much more when it comes to curving your sound.Very goood quality.

Alright, well then I guess I won't go with the Sony! The model was over $300, so I figured it was a high-end unit but whatever. The Alpine I was lookin at was much cheaper, and I'll check out Pioneer and Clarions too, I know the store I goto has them (they do have Clarion, atleast....)
Thanks for the info.

none of the sony car audio stuff made since they started the xplod line has been any sort of quality. now, if you can find some of the old school mobile ES stuff, that was quality gear. but those days are long gone...

I would definately go with a Pioneer or Alpine headunit. I have two Pioneers and both are exdtremely good quality. (and they were both used) Now speakers i would go with infinity kappas when all possible.
