New Alt

My power problems may be over.

I have been posting in the past about my lights dimming on every bass pump and wanted to know what I could do. Alot of you guys have mentioned the magic 3, which I did. Another bunch mentioned running some caps...which I did. Last group mentioned running a high output alt, which I just got today

I now have my new Power Master 140amp alternator. Aparently it produces 80amps at idle and 140amps at cruise. My stock alt produces *** knows what at idle and 95amps at cruise. Hopefully this new bad boy will fix the problem as I love listening to my stereo at night and with the current (no pun intended) power situation I have to shut down the stereo at night.

Well here are pics of my new alt uninstalled. I will be writing a review on this thign in the aftermarket reivew forum once I give it a good testing. Alt goes in at 1pm. Testing begins at 2pm

Well the install was a real pain. The stock bolts were imperial yet the powermaster was setup for metric bolts. Now...this wouldn't have been a problem if Powermaster would have included the proper hardware to mount the damn thing. SO!!! We went shopping to get the bolts. Ends up the bolt I needed was an M7. We later found out that M7 is a real uncommon bolt size. We went to 3 different hardware stores, 2 different machine rebuilding garages, and a motorbike shop and still no luck. I then said screw it, went back to CanadianTire where I bought the alt and told them I was not impressed. They went in the back and managed to scrounge up a torx based m7 bolt. I gave it a try and it worked.

Here are pics of the install.

Well after installing it I decided to give it a go. I turned on my lights, fog lights, heater, wipers, and brought the stereo to my confortable listening level of 30 and the voltage meter never even budged from the 13.8.

Installation was a pain in the butt but the end results were amazing. This alt is amazing and a definate upgrade for anyone out there in thirdgen land that is running a big honkin stereo system.

Just curious to know what the cost of the alternator was. I am thinking of getting a bigger one for mine and was just wanting to know how much it was. I am actually looking at getting a 180 amp alternator from high output alternators. Was just wanting to know how much yours was so I can get a rough estimate on about how much my new one will be.
