best audio setup

i love my music. i figure a box would be good to put weight over the rear wheels. i just dont want to add to much weight. what is the best box setups, one amp, two? not earthshattering power. but nice hits for rock/metal. any good headunits?

First thing I would do is search. You're asking a lot of broad questions that have been covered extensively in this forum.

For headunits, browse the options at crutchfield.com to get a good idea of what's available to you. They have a pretty good selection. You can always check out manufacturer websites to see their entire line as well.

As for weight in the back, an MDF box would weigh the most, but a fiberglass box would be a better choice, as it doesn't weigh as much and is just as strong if built properly.

with the headunits i just wanted an idea of what everyone is going with. i happen to like alpine and pioneer. im not up to date on the current models though. is it possible to just make a fiberglass panel and mount the subs to it?something hinged perhaps to open so i can fudge with the amp? instead of building a bigass box. and anyone have any good tutorials on fiberglass?

post *****. there, I said it.

Anywho... have a look at the current lineup for your choices here:

Pioneer
Alpine

Panasonic is a good choice as well.

I don't recomment just putting a plate setup together. If you want something simple, find a pre-built sub/amp/enclosure unit like Infinity's Basslink. You may also be able to find pre-built MDF boxes with one or two subs. And last but certainly not least, find one already made for F-bodies in the Classifieds or on Ebay.

why do you want weight over the rear wheels on a Grand Prix?

my gtp is under contract. i still have a bunch to pay off and my insurence on a financed car is thru the roof. i found a buyer for it. so with the money left over im getting a camaro or firebird and putting my spare gtp engine into it. the engine is almost like the one in my gtp that does 12.3 except this one has a bigger cam and machined heads. the gtp weighs 800lbs more than the fbody. so i want to save as much weight as i can without sacrificing some comforts.

yea i figured that out this morning. i found a guy running a turbo v6 in a 4th gen. basically from what he said i can use the 3800 block and trans from a 4th gen. it will bolt right into a 3rd gen. (well nothing ever bolts right in) the only difference between the l67 and l36 are the internals. its the same bore. so i need a 3800 from a camaro and a l67 froma grandprix to start getting funky

i personally try to stick to eclipse radios, they have treated myself and my customers very well.

i would try to get my hands on one from the '02 model year.

great quality, but not a whole terrible lot of features.
