stock 4x6's

Ok i did a search but its still unclear to me (maybe im stupid) but i was wondering if I could put new 6x9's in mine, keep the front delco 4x6's(assuming they are still delcos, havent checked yet), use an external amp for the components with my jvc HU and go from there

how would that sound?

even aftermarket 4x6 are iffy on sound under no circumstances in should you keep the stock ones IMO. They are not really that expensive, so...

are you going for 6 speakers? Deck to power the orginal locations and an amp for components?

oh ok well it is a sound theory but you should always try not to mix and match on speakers. Different speakers will sound diff. especially when you compare factory to aftermarket. If you are doing this in pieces i recomend just getting 4 new quality speakers until you can step up to a better front sound stage(i.e components in kick panels) you can get by with just new speakers and it will sound good but there will always be room for improvement.

Well I would keep the pairs the same, like 2 pioneer 4x6's up front and 2 JBL 6x9's in the back.

plus there's probably no way the original speakers sound good... they must be newer replacements -- I'd take a look, since it only takes like 5 minutes to take the dash pad off properly--or just look through with a flashlight and if anything is shiny- its new (since the old stuff was covered in cloth)

lol.....i wanna clear things up for people who dont wanna buy 250 dollar components or buy off ebay.

FutureShop or BestBuy speakers lke pioneer jbl etc....are good dont have to be components and the 4x6s n 6x9s make fine sound you do not have to buy components to have a really good system

dont be discouraged from using aftermarket 4x6s n 6x9s

Hell the 3.5" speakers in my brother inlaws monte sound awesome

I use regular 4-way 300watt 6x9's in the rear, and I couldn't be happier... I think that the high's in the rear just assist the front... I like the sound to be coming from all around, not just in front of me... I do prefer to turn down the highs a tiny bit in the rear, but for the most part, I enjoy the greater mid-bass response from my 6x9's over the traditional 5-6" component woofer.

i havent had a set of rear fill in mah car at all and cant be bothered to spend any money on it9 although in mah dads explorer he had the fade to the rear a bit and i found it distracting). ive listened to the speaks at best buy and find taht if you crank most oval shaped and most coax speaks they distort like crazy the only ones that dont are in the price range of components

I'm just curious... how loud are we talkin? can you give an estimate of wattage? I know I can pump over 100watts into my 6x9's before they start to distort... assuming you are filtering them correctly, as the built-in filter isn't THAT good... just like the infinity plates... they try to play some sounds that they aren't good at, but with my deck and amps I just cut off the lows until it gets as loud as I would ever have them without vibrations.

most speakers at bestbuy can't take much more than 50 I bet before they sound like crap... assuming you are talking about the more expensive ones... the cheaper ones are basically only meant for headunits
