running power wire and whining noise
right now my friend installed my stereo system, and he runs it out the hood and then through the door.. so then when u open the door u can see a 4gauge wire hanging in the door..
anyone know a good spot to come through the firewall on a '86 berlinetta...
and where should i tuck the wires at to hide it the most.. i'm try'n to redo my whole wiring.
also one more thing, on my rear 6x9's, i have em running off a lil jensen 200watt amp, when i turn on my stereo there is a faint whining noise coming out my left rear speaker, and its like when i rev the engine, the whining gets a higher pitch, but when i let off the gas it tends to quite down... dont know whats causing this, could it be that i'm running my RCAs to my sub amp, then going through the Pass through with another set of RCAs to my smaller amp?

Do a search. We discuss wire routing more often than I brush my teeth.
Nice driveway in color shot!
Both cars same designers (Wayne Cherry), nice to see side by side shot.
I'll go that question one better.
I have a factory GM radio, wired into the factory GM wiring for radio.
EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, I get radio whine,
but
after I activate the brake pedal!
Drives me nuts.
Then sometimes after I hit the brake pedal, the problem can dissappear.
Friend suggested another ground which is very good thought but
Where do I connect that additional grounding wire?
The chassis?
Each Speaker at point of speaker?
I'm really stumped on this problem.
Power doesn't cut out so I assume my wiring is "right", but again every once in a while, the igntion whine appears.
AND It's most prevelant on low numercial station numbers, disappears at a higher station number (like loud at an 88.1 station & 93.1 then disappears above those station numbers).
I am stumped.
This is a GM factory radio, 5 band equalizer with cassette option. NO extra power box, just factory radio.
Any helpful tips is appreciated, because again I'm stumped.

The whine you are hearing is probably caused by a bad ground. Check/redo the amp ground and also consider running a dedicated ground from your deck to the chasis.
From where on the chassis?
Another power ground line or just attach to the chassis & be done with it?
Thanks as this is what was told me earlier but just trying to clear up location of this extra helpful wire.

ked85 ... ground the metal of the headunit DIRECTLY to the chassis... that will kill a whine normally...
erm... Arynock ... I would NOT drive your car until you unhook that power wire you have running through your door..
that has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard... no offense to you... but your friend is obviously not an installer... amature or professional... because putting the wire through there is like getting on your knees and BEGGING for your car to burn to the ground....
put it through the firewall, and use a grommet!
check right above the brake pedal area, there are some already there, or just make a new hole---that's what I would do...
add an extra ground to your deck, and another to the amp... make sure the area they are grounded to is clean of paint and dirt first... you should be good to go.

just so you know, a 'friend' that puts your car in danger like that is not really your friend...
he is jealous of your bad-*** ride, and wants it to burn to the ground...
good luck

I have not done the extra wire trick yet.
Yesterday I notice the problem again and the "signal" was cutting in & out.
Again a low numbered station.
The "stereo" light was going on & off.
What could be going on, IF the antenna was also a problem is this description? Fender mounted antenna does not move so I am assuming the antenna connection at radio or the radio antenna wire thru the car

I don't know anything about cleaning the antenna connection, other than at the headunit... but I wonder if you could test this by getting a coat hanger or something, and see if you can all-the-sudden get this channel clearly...
I have a factory antenna, fresh hole drilled on this fender.
I know outside antenna is secured very well.
BUT THE INSIDE CONNECTION has me curious as
COULD this antenna connection be "hitting some metal" back there to cause this once in a while ignition noise problem, too?
When I "remove" the radio for the extra wire grounding idea, I'll check on antenna connection, too.
Thanks for all suggestions, all!
