Front Speaker installs
Hey all,
My friend gave me some clarion speakers 4X6 but they are weird. They have a 4" speaker and then a little 1" tweeter on a plate. They are rated for 120watts peak @ 50watts RMS. Well I was thinking of putting these in the front speaker positions as they would most definately sound better then the 17 year old paper speakers that are sitting thre but i can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the grilles. Any advice on this?

Well, to get hte grilles off the dash, you pull the dash off by removing the 4 screws near the windshield vents, and the screws along the front bottom... and i imagine there would jsut be screwes holding the speakers girlles to the speakers too...

Yeah, you have to take the dash pad off. But the grilles stay with the pad, so then you just have to unbolt the speakers. I took off my dash pad the other day just to see, because I was bored. *shrug*

If you don't want to go through the effort to remove the dash pad, don't bother installing those. Taking off the dash pad is only the beginning of what's necessary to install those.
Read the tech article in the tech section of this site for a step-by-step description of how to install a pair of Boston Acoustics plate speakers into a firebird dash. This is exactly what you're going to need to do. It's not hard, but it is time consuming and requires some specific tools.
