head unit freezed up
my brothers 91 rs has a kenwood head unit, one with a motorized flip face plate.
lateley it started just doing nothing, the controls do nothing and the lcd displays nothing, but the cd that was playing before would still play.
and if you put your finger in the way when its flipping over and stop it after a second when it stops trying to move the lcd displays normally and a few of the controls work including volume, forward/backward tracks, and power...
is it locked up some how? and well how to fix it?
thanks

Send it out for service. It's probably the board in the faceplate.

Typically something like that will be around a hundred bucks.

Alpine, "Lets put this 'glide-thingy' on our top two model HU's so they can fail after a week and lockup the unit."
Clarion, "Lets use these clips to hold things to the heat sink instead of screws. They'll never brake and leave a chunk of metal floating around an the main PCB (they used the wrong metal, they broke).
They ALL have their problems. With the name brand HUs (Sony is the exception) you get remarkably similar return rates ones you exclude units damaged from improper install.

I know. I had some talks with the Alpine field rep. about the glide touch and passed a NIB $200.00 w/ warranty CDA-9835 because I was waiting on the 9855 base on some things he said about how the thing would operate. KICKING MY SELF.

well Im just saying that my 9807 has been in my car for a while and I havent had any problems with it neither has my friend with his $300+ clarion. You get what you pay for. Alot of people on this board back alpine and clarion because theyre awesome head units.
I know that head units with flipping faceplates, extra gadgets can easily break just like a sony/jensen can but I havent seen any horror stories on this board so far from alpine or clarion. Every person Ive talked to with a clarion or alpine would agree. You get what you pay for.
sorry for the rant guys. I hope you dont get mad at me for saying that alpine/clarion are prolly some of the best moderatly priced units around.
