Amp without subs question
i have a sony headunit and pioneer speakers in my car...
and it sounds ok but for real bassy songs, it just doesnt do it for me. i want more bass but dont really want to do subs and i have heard a amp can help out by powering the speakers. my sisters 94 grand am bumps harder than my car and all it has is stock speakers and a sony headunit.
does this help increase bass? if so, what amp should i get??

It may be bassy becuase of the location of the speakers in her car and the compartment its in. Amping up speakers that can handle it will improve sound quality and should make the bass a bit better. I'm looking into installing subs in my sail panels right now just for some low end that doesn't sound like a sub.

If you were going to buy say a 4 channel amp, I suggest just getting a mono amp with like an 8" sub. If your running sony and pioneer stuff. I'm sure you wouldn't mind going to walmart. Stuffs cheap.

yeah my pioneer speakers and stuff are nothing really special. i needed to replace the shot stock stuff. i forget the specs on them but i'll see if i can find out.
the head unit is a nice flip down face with the black panel outside. i got a good deal on it.
i dont really care too much about sound and dont want subs since they weigh abit and i will lose trunk space. performance can not be taken away LOL
so i guess i will look into an amp sometime.
any recommendations?

1 8" sub prolly weighs around 10lbs, a small box that goes on the passenger side of the rear well (you'll still have the rest of the well for luggage) will weigh less than 40lbs (maybe even less, i know a whole 4'x8' sheet of 3/4 mdf weighs 100lbs, but you might could use 1/2" mdf and just make sure its strong) plus a few pounds for an amp, and that'll weigh around 50-60lbs, that may be a lot if you like racing and what not, but thats a pretty light system there (my old system weighed 150-200lbs though) AND you can have the sub/amp for around $100 shipped......

a 40 pound box for an 8 inch sub?
that is craziness.
The sealed box (which you'll probably want for an 8" and for what you sound like you want) for my 10 inch sub wieghs assuredly less than 10 pounds.
and my 500 watt 4 channel amp wieghs about 7 or 8.
The sub itself is probably the same, but definitely not 10 lbs.
Mount a small amp to a small box and put an 8 inch sub in there, something you can pull out quick for track day, and it will still sound good and be easy as all hell to hook back up real quick.
You don't need to worry about the box flex or vibration from one 8" sub destroying your amp and you won't pound hard enough to attract attention or invite a break in, yet you'll still sound ALOT better.
Then all you've added on race day is a couple pounds of wire that you left in your car. (not even a couple pounds I bet because the wire to power something like that won't need to be very big)

sweet thats a great idea......
what type of amp should i look into getting? there are like 2 channel amps, 4 channel amps and different wattages, etc....
i might just go with a simple single 10 inch and make a little box for it and put it right in the middle of the hatch space
