isit worth it to dynamat the roof area?
I am getting ready to lay some raamaudio mat in my car and need to know if putting it on the insdie of the roof is gonna be worth it or not. It is a lot of material to waste if it isnt going to do anything. What are the key areas to hit other then the doors and floor? Should I keep the the OEM padding material that is stuck to the carpet or can I remove it? I do not plan on running any speakers in the sail panels. I think I am going to go with a componet setup in the kicks so I know i have to hit them with some matting. I have about 95 sq feet of material to use. If i run out early then I want to make the areas I didnt get to easy to do after I put the interior back together so I guess I will be working from front to rear.

When I got my RS, it had no headliner. Simply putting one in GREATLY reduced road noise (and rain noise). I don't know how much of an effect sound dampening material will have, but I'm certain it will be noticable.

I am in the midle of laying the stuff down on the floors and boy let me tell you that this is a little harder then I thought. its just time consuming and all. I found a huge roll of rubber that looks to be a little bit thicker then 1/8" I wonder if laying that down over this dynamat would do anything for me. The dyanmat isnt as thick as I thought it was gonna be thats why I was wondering. its not sticky or anythng so I would have to glue it down over the dynamat. I dont have enough dynamat to double it up on everything.

Dynamat simply reduces niose by adding weight to body panels, wich in turn, reduces vibration, causing it to "block out" exterior noise. It will hep to matter where or what panel it's on... but remember, it weighs a ton!

I just finished added it to the passenger door and then I added a 1/8" piece of rubber to the door to replace the cheap plastic cover that Gm put there. The door now shuts a lot quieter and I dont I have push it so hard to get it to fully latch. Yes, the door feels like it wieghs a little bit more buy in the ,ong run the dynamat will help a lot for keeping out noise and keeping in my tunes

I have two comments. First, it doesn't weigh that much. Raam mat weighs .4 lbs/sq ft. When you're talking about adding 100 sq ft (roughly the size of one of their rolls), you're only talking about 40 pounds. Sure, it may seem hefty, but realize how much the average MDF box weighs, or even a full tank of gas. How many of you don’t fill the tank all the way to save weight in your daily driver (since I doubt many of you would put a stereo in your race car)? Some people on these boards have subs that weigh more than 40 lbs
Second, I have been running without the majority of my interior for a while because I’m in the process of attempting rust repairs in the wheel wells. Putting a layer of mat over my room provided an amazing difference. When I would talk in the car with the engine off the metal roof would act like a huge mirror. It was also pretty loud in the rain. The mat stopped both of those from happening. I'm sure that putting the headliner up will stop even more noise. The mat acts like a dampener (stops vibration/rain) and the headliner will act like a filter (cut noise).
