The fuse should be near your battery, not the amp. Wiring it that way offers absolutely no protection for the length of wire between the battery and fuse.

Sure, in which case the only damage done is wasting money on a fuse you don't need.

Heh, I was about to comment on the fuse location myself.

Though its not where its supposed to be, its sure in an easy place to change!

LOL

with those subs and amp, which are sonys btw, id bet you my monthly paycheck that he'll never need a fuse. If the amp says 1000 watts, id lay money that it isnt putting out close to 650. Run some 2 gauge wire and your set.

other then it being sonys, pretty clean install bro.

The idea of a fuse as close to your battery as possible is to protect against car fires. If the insulation on the power wire wears through you're looking at a pretty good electrical fire unless there's a fuse on the battery end to stop the arcing.

^i know that bro, its supposted to be no more then 18 inches away from the battery. i install this ****. Just saying that the sonys are very underpowered and over-rated, that you almost have no problem to worry bout. You would do it, safty wise, but i doubt that it would make a difference if u didnt have it.

No hard feelings, sorry if I came across the wrong way

Still, regardless of the amp on the end of it, any badly routed power cable can wear through.

Is it just me or is that amp overfused? Assuming this is the same amp...

Two 40 amp fuses for a sony?

Either way, welcome to the world of car audio BlackMagic. Your wallet will never be quite the same.

LOL, yea, after he gets over his short lived sony fad, which a majority of us have been threw, including I, you wallet will be so much lighter. No more load on your back to deal with!!

And, yes, the 2 40 fuses it comes with are WAY too much, if anything shorted, it wouldnt do a damn thing. When i had my 1200 watt sony amp back in the day, i replaced it with 2 20 fuses.

Regardless of the power rating of the amp(s), the battery still has several hundred amps at its disposal which can cause quite a bit of heat & possibly a fire if shorted to ground. EVen if you remove the amps from the car, there could still be a fire if there is improper fusing.

That's cool, man. The danger of a public forum such as this is people can read comments and take them at face value. I try to point out things which someone could take incorrectly. There are a whole lot of people who read and never post here. Glad you didn't take it the wrong way.

heh, no problem.

i think if he wants cheap subs, to upgrade from sony to insignia, best buys brand, it is a sub-company of MTX i beleive, it is a lot cheaper, and it looks and sounds better.

I doubt Insignia is any 1 brand. It's most likely a Best Buy derived name and they have the lowest bidder for each product put their name on it. Most of their audio stuff is chinese made crap.

I must be missing something because it sounds like alot of people have had trouble with these subs or just dont like them. I've got the same subs with a 1100watt sony amp in my 95 camaro and its sounds great. I mean for how cheap i got the new system for and how it preforms i don't think i could have done any better. I've had mine for a year now and tend to listen to it very loud and have yet to have any kind of trouble. I'll let you know guys know when the trouble begins.

If you're happy with them, then great. A lot of us have more demanding requirements when it comes to certain products, so the Sony stuff no longer fits our needs.

When you get to the level of "loud" that some of us are at, your subs will go "pop" in a hurry. Likewise, some of us (usually different people than those who want the stuff loud), have more stringent taste when it comes to sound quality, so once again, the Sonys no longer stand up.
