Any cool/retro/custom receivers out there?

My original Delco AM/FM radio is dead, so I need to get into the 21st century.

Sorry, but I HATE the look of all the generic receivers out there, Alpine/JVC/Kenwood, etc etc. They all look cheesy, although I'm sure that they are technically good.

Where can I get something cool/unusual/retro? I don't care about cost, or even sound quality, I just want something cool and retro looking in my dash, not some modern monstrosity with blue flashing crap, and tons of shiny plastic bling.

All I need is FM, with a CD player, but I'd even give up the CD player if I could get an awsomely cool FM tuner.

Any pics would be appreciated.

when you mean retro, how far are you you wanting to back in years? MY fave head-unit of all time is the pioneer deh-p835r, and it's 99ish almost 2000. If you want a real old looking appearing head-unit, try www.customautosound.com.

P.S. If anyone knows where I can buy one of these please PM me.

Klause,
Cool, that website customautosound is exactly the type of stuff I'm looking for. There must be more places that make "old skool" looking radios.

This is one from that website that I think is cool, but it's for a 2nd gen, so I don't know if it would work...

Will work, just a matter of adapting ti to fit the third gen dash. Also, may have to modify the wiring harness. Check with Custom auto sound and they will give you some direction. It definitely CAN be done.

Look at the new Nakamichi decks. I fell in love with the CD500. Its a great sounding head unit. I put it in my best friends taurus. The sound is so.... Transparent. He has a very respectable system. Boston Pro6 in custom kicks. a single pro 12 from B.A. His newer alpine died and he looked around or rather listened and that is the one he bought. I love the "older" non flashy or gaudy appearance. At least check them out. Simple black CD player.

There is a guy on e-bay selling re-built factory cassette players. He adds a 3.5mm plug to the front to plug in a i-pod/mp3 player/cd player. The start bid is usually 30 or 40 and I have seen them sell for as much as 170. I got one from him and it works perfect. I found a NOS radio/heater bezel and it looks so sweet. His name is "thorig" or if you do a search for "camaro stereo" you can find them if hes on. There is one on there right now actually with the EQ. They even come with a 30 day return on them.

Actually, this Blaupunkt Bahamas unit looks nice, clean, black, and stock. No shiny bling, the color can be changed, and it doesn't have that ugly LED style screen, or flashing crap.

What do you guys think?

Wow does that deh-p835r bring back memories! I second the Nakamichi stuff. Plain, simple and sound good in my opinion.
