How to REMOVE Dynamat Super ?????

Anyone ever remove Dynamat Super sucessfully? I'm really not looking forward to this cause it's on good and has been there for a while. I've done the huge stereo thing in this car, now it's time for a little resto work and I've got Dynamat everywhere.....(usually a good thing)! Any thoughts?

Try and get it as warm as possible, to get the glue tachy and maybe it will come up.

Why do you need to remove it all?

The car is being changed into a race car of sorts, and it's not going to have any carpet or floor coverings and I don't want the Dynamat down anymore.

here is the easy way, but it might cost a bit....

Cut out the floors and replace with new panels!

Oh man, that black stuff is NASTY. I did RAAMmat and after many months I still find that black **** on tools and cloths and crap. I'm sure the stuff in Dynamat is just as bad.

I have no idea how you would take it off the car, but I can help somewhat. I can almost gurantee you will get that crap all over your clothes, tools, and house. I tried all kinds of soaps, solvents, denatured alcohol, paint thinner, gasoline, the ONLY thing that I could find that dissolved it was Goo Gone. There may be other things, but I know this works at least.

That's the best stuff in the world. I never even thought about it. I wonder if they sell it in 55 gallon drums???? I think I'm gonna need it. I'm gonna try and get it hot tonight and see if I can peel any of it up....wish me luck!

Well, I've got a decent solution to it all. You have to get Dynamat Super just past warm and pull it like you would pull double sided foam tape. As it stretches the glue breaks free. You can't get it too hot or it will turn to gum and too cold and it just breaks up into tiny pieces. This is about 2 hours worth of work. It took a lot of trial and error, but I think I found about the right temp to pull it all up pretty quickly. I used the torch to see if I could burn off some of the glue without getting the panels too hot to where they would start to warp and stretch.

Well, after much trial and error, i found out that we all pretty much had it right the first time. With just enough heat, the Dynamat gets pliable again and the glue becomes tacky and you can pull the foil backing off and then pull and stretch the Dynamat itself and the glue loses adhesion and comes off. You can see where I tried to scrape on the top of the well area and it left LOTS of residue. Pretty much everywhere else is pretty clean with only small spots of glue left.....and that will come off easy enough.

I still have the pass side floorboard left and the very bottom of the back well, but know that I know how to get it out, it won't take any time!

Good to see it came off. How much of a difference did it make with it in the car?

The difference with and without it is very dramatic. When I put it in years ago, I could hardly believe the difference. The car drives quieter and a lot fo the road noise that is transmitted thru the bottom of the car is washed out. Also, the aluminum film is a heat barrier...not much of one, but it does reflect heat. It is pretty dramatic now that it is out too, because the panels make a lot more noise now that the sound deadening is gone.

That sounds pretty good, I just remembered I've only driven my car with the windows closed once though, lol. Keep us updated on what you do to the car, race cars are always cool
