you could put them in the factory location, but i wouldnt use 6x9, i used 6 and a halfs, and the sound is SO much more clear and crisp, 6x9 are garbage in my opinion and round speakers are the only way to go.

Yes round speakers are going to have a better sound then a 6x9.

scottyb123, you'll also have way more selection if you go with a 6.5 in the factory location. All you need to do to make it fit is make a baffle, and cut out the hole for the speaker.

Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
I would NEVER order from Crutchfield. they might have a bunch of good products, but their prices are WAY high. Just go to your local audio shop and get a good set of 6.5's or 6.5 components and make a baffle. I think I still have my 6.5 component baffles in my maro. But I actually don't use rear speakers. I run just the front 5.25 focals and a 10" sub. Sounds great to my ears.

Not all thirdgen's came with 6x9's in the 'factory sail panel' location. My camaro came with the Bose option and included 'factory location' 6x9's incorporated into the hatch cover. The sail panels do not have the cut-outs for 6x9's. You'll find a lot of lower end models without 6x9's at all.

Why not try mounting 8" subs instead of 6x9's? That way you keep the rear area stock but still have some bass.
