Which gauge wire would be good for my 1600 watt amp??
So I got a new Volfenhag 1600 watt amp + 2 12" 1000watt subs today for only $135 I know a great deal huh? Anyway, was wondering which gauge would be the best for this setup someone at Best Buy told me the 4 gauge would be the one to go with...but man they are expensive there like $105 for the amp install kit!
Anyway..let me know!!

I agree 4 gauge best buy doesn't seem to have a huge selection of install kits either. Also please let me know what you think of the Volfenhag one of my reps is trying to get me to buy it, and never has much to demo for me

Go to walmart and get the "1000 watt amp kit". It comes with 5 gauge wire and everything you need and if memory serves right it's less than 35 bones. That'll be fine for that amp.

since that amp is probably putting out only like a 1000watts 4 gauge will be fine.. but to be completely honest with you wolfenhag isnt the worst but its pretty bad.. some think its good stuff but majority say its garbage

What is the RMS rating on that amp?
If it were me, I would save up and buy better equipment. It beats buying this now, and a year from now having to buy all new stuff again.

Well to be honest Volfenhag is not the worst out there, but it's pretty darn close. I put it in the same category has pyle, pyramid, audiobahn etc.

They work great for me...have very deep bass and is very clear, i never heard any problem with this brand, my uncle had the same setup for at least 3-4 years now, nothing ever went wrong with them. This brand is pretty pricey and i think i got my money's worth. No point in saying go buy another....obviously i have this.......

Also what is the RMS rating on the amp. What is the fuse size on the amp too. If they put in a small current fuse, then you know it's not drawing the amount of power it's claiming.

But in your last post, you said they have a clean/deep bass, and your uncle has them?

I'm just saying that there are plenty of members on my forum, that have problems with them and brands like them. So it's always best when someone asks for a recommendation on them, to let them know both sides.

wait, I thought you said you never heard of the company before, or ever heard their equipment.

Re: Which gauge wire would be good for my 1600 watt amp??
That's sort of what I figured, they don't list the RMS rating.
I'm not trying to put down your selection, and I believe that's what you thinking I"m doing. I'm really just trying to help, or help others who read this post later on.
It's that 'max power output' it really means nothing, it's basically a number they made up. It could have reached that output, but the failed to mention that the amp burst into flames in the process.
RMS is the rating to look for, and I just went to Volfenhag's website, and they dont' even list those ratings for any of their amps. They talk more about the blue colored lights thier amps have, more then anything else. They have 3 lines in the description about the color of the lights.

I check the fuses on it. Those don't lie. If it's got 40A of fusing, picture it drawing *maybe* 35A. 35x14.4 = 500W. I think 4AWG is good enough for 500W, so you should be fine. I usually buy welding cable from an industrial supply house, then buy the crimp on ends there as well. Buy a set or two of RCA's from wherever, and you've got a "kit". Oh, and a fuse holder.
But that walmart kit is damn cheap, that's hard to beat.
5AWG?? that's a new one on me.

I remember paying about $20 for my 1000w (4ga) kit, but I had to look around for it...

Re: Which gauge wire would be good for my 1600 watt amp??
tbh i wouldnt buy either of them, maybe the power wires dont matter but id buy a good rca cable cause that effects the sound. and if you paid that much for wolfenhag than you got ripped off, not trying to be an *** but its not the best stuff out there, it may work for you but when you hear a nice sub youd be surprised
