check your ground.. make sure you scrape some paint off the surface.. and check the fuse at the amp and battery... basically check for loose connections...

yea the little screw may be the problem...but its hard to find a good ground
with only 12'' of ground wire. So is the fuse that goes on the power wire suppose to be by the amp or by the battery or does it matter? Senior Member

well, also lets consider how much power are you pushing. Obviously the more wattage the thicker the gauge wire should be...For my 1000w amp, I have a 4ga (+) hooked up to the battery and another 4ga for the ground. After you're sure you are sure about the gauge of the wire, then make sure the connections are secure...

check both fuses on the amp and by the battery.. the main thing is to make sure you have a good ground.. i used the bolt by the spare tire... and make sure your hooked to the remote turn on on the radio or amp... different radios call it different.

Ok what you need is a test light you can get one from any parts store. Make sure you have power at the amp test the wire coming from the batt. Then check the remote turn on an e z way is to use a 3inch pice of wire and jump the main power wire and the remote wire if it turns on then it is the remote wire. If it is the remote wire hook it up to the red wire behind the radio. The best way to see if the ground is good disconnect it from the amp and extend your test light wire and hook it up to the pos. Side of the batt. Touch the ground the light turns on it is a good ground. So I hope this all helps. Oh and don't do the jump wire too long I don't know if it is good but I do it all the time it saves a lot of time. I had the same prob with mine it was the remote wire. Good luck

OK, you said the protection light is coming on.
Is this with the speakers hooked up? Try unhooking the speakers, and trying again. If it turns on, and stays on check your speaker connections. You may have them wired up wrong.
If it still goes into protect mode, you at least know it's not because of that.
I would then check your ground wire, then your main power and then the remote.
Do you have a multimeter? You can use that to check to make sure you have 12V at your power and remote connections.
Is this a new amp or a used one? If it's used, there is always that possibility that there is something wrong with it.
After rereading your post, I would really check that ground. It sounds like you're not getting a good ground.

Re: Help hooking up amp + Subs plz
I was told my amp was bad but it was remote wire that was bad so check all the wires first befor you say the amp is bad. I get a lot of people saying the amp sux and it doesn't work when I check it they hooked it up wrong and most of the time it is the remote wire. So good luck on finding the prob. I also used a bolt in the spare tire area as a ground.

Re: Help hooking up amp + Subs plz
Something to go along with that, make sure you're not presenting too low impedence for your amp. If your amp is 2 ohm stable and you have your speakers wired to present something less, the amp could very well go into protection.
