Custom Box Question
I want to make a sealed box to hold 2 10" subs in the back of my car. The only problem is, I want to make the box so it fits in the lower part of the rear well. It seems like 10's would fit back there, but would there be enough airspace for 2 sealed 10's? I hope so because it would be an easier box to make than the 2 12" box that everyone has, and I could put the T-tops where they always go. Also I would be able to store the amp on the little ledge on the right side of the well.
Also, if someone has ever done this before, please post a pic for me to see! Thanks.

Re: Custom Box Question
I read that thread, but it is for a full size box. My question is about making a box just for the bottom of the well.

Re: Custom Box Question
Just make the wall dimensions shorter. I haven't calculated the resulting space, but my guess is, it would be good for 1 1/2 10" subs. In other words, a bit more than needed for one 10", not enough for two 10".
As for too much space, that would a simple thing take care of.

Re: Custom Box Question
I had one made similar to what you want to do for a single 12" sub requiring 1.5 cf volume. It's made mostly of fiberglass and sits just a little higher than the aforementioned shelf. The sub sits to the left side so there is room for my amp over the rest of the box. The box takes up about 80% of the space in the well, so there is some empty space on the right side. This single sub is much louder and hits harder than the pair of JL 10W6 10" I had before.
The box and its framework

After it was all finished, the amp and sub were flushed with a piece of hard board surround covered with carpet, then I had a cover made from expanded metal and covered that with acoustic carpet. I've posted these before, but here's the finished product.

Re: Custom Box Question
Thanks. Here is the amp I have, and I was thinking of 2 kicker CVR 10."

Another question, if I wanted to do a single sub, would it work to run each voice coil off its own channel? I ask because my amp is a 2 channel non-bridgable. So thats why I was looking at two cheap 10" subs.
[edit] looks like I was wrong. The amp is a mono block amp. But it has hookups like a 2 channel amp? I mean, it has 2 (+) connections, and 2 (-) connections. Are you supposed to run one a seperate wire to each voice coil?

Re: Custom Box Question
If the sub you want to run is a dual 4-ohm voice coil, you will probably have no problem bridging the amp as it is 2-ohm stable (I would check the specs). A dual 2-ohm woofer like mine would have to have each voice coil connected to its own channel, unless you connect the voice coils in series to present a 4-ohm load. That's a nice amp you have BTW, mine is an older model of the Memphis Belle.

Re: Custom Box Question
Yeah, then I will probably do a single woofer. I really wanted to be louder than my buddy's 3000GT with 2 12" infinity, and a 1000W sony amp. But I guess that isnt gonna happen with a little 500W amp that I have anyway.
Another thing I was thinking is, is it possible at all to run 2 speakers off a mono amp? I mean, since the amp is 2 ohm stable, what if I got 2 DVC 4ohm speakers, and wired them in parallel to present a 2ohm load, then ran each speaker to its own (+) and (-) channel?
Also, I only paid 40 for the amp. Got it on the street. The guy I got it off of was running a single 12 in his S-10 and it seemed to bump pretty good for 500W.
