Re: putting regular speakers in bose panels

I've placed 4" speakers in the bose kick panels. Had to use a dremel to take off some of the plastic to fit them. You probably won't find a speaker that will fit the kick panels without some modification.

Did you gutt the insides by removing the amps? How did they sound?

Can't get you pictures, already recovered with the carpet. Didn't remove or re-use the amps. They were likely lower output than the feed from my deck. I did hook up the (new) speakers through the amps on the workbench and couldn't tell any difference.

I used 4" Kicker 2-way speakers don't remember the specific model.

How long ago was that? I've been looking and so far, have not found anything that would not require major modifications to the kicks.

Last Summer? If you've pulled the factory speakers out you'll see why it would be difficult to find a replacement speaker that will mount without breaking out the dremel. The kickers are covered in carpet though and you could even cut out the grill and mount replacement speakers from the outside of the plastic enclosure.

Yes, I've taken the pass side one apart which seems to be deeper than the driver side. I haven't been able to find anything that will fit without cutting a large hole in the back of the panel. I've thought about it, but I really want to keep them mounted behind the factory carpet.

If they don't have too much profile outside the box, you could still cover them with carpet. I'm thinking one of mine was like that.

Re: putting regular speakers in bose panels

On my 1991 Z28 w/the BOSE I had to break out the hole saw on the drivers side kick panel for my Infinity Reference 3.5 to fit but on the passenger side there is a completely different speaker and setup so the box was deep enough for them.
