Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
Thinking of soldering a headphone input into my equalizer radio and I was thinking either modifying a black home audio iPod dock to fit somewhere or just using a black dock wire and hide the iPod somewhere since if its visible it could make my car a target to theft.
I need to see some iPod installations in your cars for ideas
I need a setup that can charge the iPod and play music using the dock connector
Thanks

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
Sorry no pics but mine is just simply hooked up to the back of the radio, routed under the console and back into the center console through a hole i drilled. I have my ipod mounted to one of the sides using velcro strips that are also on the back of my ipod case. Simply done and out of sight.

I have the pioneer dehp860 with the ib100 ipod interface. The ipod lives in the center console out of sight, always charged, and I never have to touch it because the entire catalogue is accessed through the pioneer headunit...<br>

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
Check the pioneer website... www.pioneerelectronics.com for an entire line of pioneer am/fm/cd headunits that have direct control of IPOD. These units are not expensive, sound GREAT, and have a very easy control of your IPOD. It is the best sounding way to listen to the IPOD in your car. My setup is older and searching for artists and song is arduous, but the newer stuff is way better. For those of you who are not Pioneer fans, the other companies that have direct control for your IPOD are, Alpine, Panasonic, and Kenwood.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
No pics since I sold the car. But I rna a 6 foot 3.5 mm cable form the aux on the HU to my ipod. I took apart thte center console and ran the wire under it so it didnt look bad. Drilled a hole on the bottom of the center console glove box and ran the wire back otu the top. Looked clean but took some effort

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
I bought my car with the ipod wire already ran, just a single wire from the back of the headunit with a plug for the bottom of the ipod.
My problem though is that I unhooked the battery the other day to install a sensor and now its uninstalled that wire and I have no idea how to reinstall it? Any Ideas?

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
Your avatar is Buddy Jesus.. thats awesome!! What is the make and model of the head unit in your car? It is possible there is a tiny reset button on or behind the face of the unit, something you would need a pick tool or a toothpick to press on. This would reset the unit's micro processor which may get scrambled when power is disconnected then reapplied. Other units require going into the setup menu to activate the auxillary or Ipod input. Give me as much info about your head unit as you can... I should be able to help you figure it out.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
I had a ashtray mod installed. I ended up putting my window switches there and and extra outlet due to having an old POS Sony. It works good, got an IPOD holder/transmitter/charger there.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
Mine comes from the bottom of the center counsel on the passenger side and is mounted to the passenger side just below the top lip. This is a picture from my cardomain to give an idea. When I get home I mite put better picture up of the whole think because you can't see how it mounted. I throw my Ipod in the center box to hide it from view or just take it with me.
Edit: The second picture is what it looks like on the passenger side.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
the iplug is the plug it hooks in the back of the head unit. i just plug up the same cord (that has the two plug in ends) that you use for the aux to the iplug. plug it in the iplug and in to my ipod or mp3. Dual also has the just plain ipod connecter for this but it was $50 and the iplug was free with the radio.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
I have a Kenwood with the Ipod adaptor and just have the box mounted behind the radio area and the cable going up the side of the console and then into it.
I just plug my ipod in and control it through the Kenwood.

That is some seriously sweet stuff. I really like that too, not having to use the ipod to control it.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
Well I made a mod for my ashtray that sorta does a few useful tricks for my car. The cigarette lighter is where I stick in a Griffin Fm transmitter, so no cords or anything, and it looks legit. Don't have a picture of the transmitter but you can get the idea.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
i pluged mine into the back of the stereo, ran the cord out the back side with the AC wires and velcrowd the ipod under the dash, that way i can reach it. and its out of site out of mind. if they steal the radio they will most likely be too stupid and not even see the $300 super ipod.

Re: Lets see your iPod setups in your cars!
I have the same head unit in my Blazer...its very simple to hook up the iplug. You need to take the head unit completely out...there are 2 RCA wires hanging there...take the iplug, and plug those RCA cables together, then install the head unit back into the car. Then go to radio shack and get one of the male/male headphone cables to plug into the iplug and ur ipod. http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family
Awesome thanks.

my sony head unit has an auxillary input in the front so i cut part of the console out and put in the ipod dock shell that came with my ipod bought a patch cable at walmart glued one end of the cable on the bottom of the dock ran the rest of the cord under the console, came out by the ashtray and plugs into the head unit.
cant figure out how to put a thumbnail of it up but theres an interior pic in my album on my profile where you can see it
