backseats and trunk area sub box?
ive been thinking about how much i hate people sitting in the back seats and how much i love loud car audio so ive decided why dont i build a box that takes up the rear seat area and the cargo/trunk area just one big box. has anyone ever seen this done before? Any Ideas ? i will post pix of build once i start if i even go this route its more like a what if at the moment. Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated

Re: backseats and trunk area sub box?
best bet would obviously make everything yourself. if you plan on putting the subs in the back seat make sure they sound bounces off the hatch glass.. you wont get as much bass if you just have them facing the driver and passanger seats. i have seen rear seat delete kits for 4th gens and i know someone made one for a 3rd gen.. just not sure if anyone mass produces them.. i was gonna do the same thing. i was gonna put 4 6x9 in a custom made box in the back seat with the amps mounted on it. let us know if you plan to do this and definately do a write up.

I have done this and gotta say it sounds great but looks retarded now im trying to find a way to hide em better in a nice box. the car looks so much cleaner when there isnt a giant box filling the back. I had 2-12" jl audio subs, with 3-10" jl audio subs taking up my t-roof area, i tried em seperately and both ways they look dumb, i now want a custom fiberglass enclosure that fills the spare tire area nicely, i do n ot want a bazooka tube i want more power.

These aren't camaros/firebirds but the concept is the exact same....I did these a few years ago.....all you need to do is measure out your seat area....build a box to fit it w/o coming out past the door jambs and built "trim" panels to finish it off.
Here's one I started for my s10 blazer....but decided to keep the rear seat

yeah if you wanna do it cheap its gonna look ugly, properly would involve ripping seats out and using fiberglass possible welding and lots of carpentry and upholstry work. Also you take a chance on wishing you jus had a good stereo down the road instead of something that destroyed your interior and added extra weight
----------
and mellis instead of putting 6x9's in a box i bet you would be more happy with a good quality pair of 6x9's in your factory sail panels, and a bazooka tube. the setup would look cleaner and sound better maybe some dome tweeters if you like your high end.

im not wanting the big wall type i was thinking more of one thats level off like right on the top of the rounded side walls in the trunk area that goes all the way to the front of the rear seat "bumps" with an angled front

Re: backseats and trunk area sub box?
That's what I did with my bird. Since I put in the roll bar the backseat was usless. So i deleted that, put the subs there and built a panel to cover the whole trunk. so now I have a covered storage area for the nitrous.
I really didn't notice much difference from trunk to backseat for the subs. And my systems no sloutch.

Re: backseats and trunk area sub box?
Yea i just got my backseat took out and have installed four memphis audio 12s and a 1200 watt amp and highs and mid bass speakers in the doors, with a 400 watt amp on those. All of this in a custom enclosure ad it sounds and more importantly looks great. Gm even matched the color to get the right look. All of this was done by Audio X in florence alabama.[/IMG]

Re: backseats and trunk area sub box?
i started with 2 alumapro bp-12 encolsures and made mounrs for them out of wood to get them to sit on the angle i wanted them to.( slightly back)
then i just used some 1/2 inch mdf and measures all the spaces and made panels to fit in all the gaps to make it look like one big box and moldit into the car, though i did have to make some panels out of fiberglass but those arent shown in the pics.
once everything fit right i just went to the ragshop and got some black material and glue and covered all the panels i made.
everything screws together and a secondary batter fits under the cover inbetween the 2 boxes
