My stock car isn't too bad driving around but the exhaust gives it more sound than the road. Its all about the asphalt your driving on, some give more vibrations. As for the d-mat, I don't have/plan to use it but I have heard good things about it. If the money is there go for it but if your tight on budget there are other alternatives, just look around.

Re: How much road noise is normal

If you are hearing a lot of road noise you may want to look into a few things with your car. First are your seals/wheather stripping good and installed properly. If not this alone will increase the road noise you hear inside that car a lot. Dynamat helps a lot if you are willing to do the work and install it correctly. Thirdgens are famous for being loud inside the car, mine is not too bad but I have recently re-did all my wheather stripping which seemd to help and I also have plans to dynamat my whole car.

Hope this helps

Re: How much road noise is normal

dj, what are these other options you speak of?

yeah, i guess my weather seals are in pretty bad shape.
i wish some of that stuff was cheaper tho... dang, i mean $250 for trunk weather seal...

im thinking about subframe connectors and i hear that helps a lot, but most of my noise is coming from the back. it sounds like i have a toolbox full of crap rattling around in the trunk.
yes, ive checked the spare tire and its bolted in very securely.

i guess dynamat isnt very cost effective either though...

Re: How much road noise is normal

or just crank up the music bro, its only noise...Best advice is when working on a car or restoring one is to do it in sets. Not everything at once, just start somewhere and work slow to the finish product. Try this website, its www.secondskinaudio.com its like dynamat but it is cheaper. I have heard good things about it and I think thats what I am going to put in my car.
