Best place to connect the REM cable???

Whats the best place to connect the REM Cable from the amp???

My friend recommended connecting it straight to the 12V battery...but I noticed that would keep it on all the time....So I removed it and I am looking for a better spot ....Where on the radio does it connect so that it would turn on/off along with car?

You can splice it right into your gauge fuse, it even tucks nicely under the carpet from right there. And it'll turn off when the car is off as well. Just either buy a wire sleeve for the fuse, or be gentle and wrap and black tape it around the blade of the fuse. Plug the fuse back in, voila, you have a remote.

The blue (or blue with white stripe)from your head unit is the amp (or power antenae) remote turn on. Run that wire back to the amp.

^^^^^^^^^^ What he said

Head units have designated wires for that because if you hook it to the battery the amp will be on all the time, If you hook it to your fuse block you risk damage to the wiring system. I would much rather replace a radio than a car wiring harness or be stranded with a dead battery.

Are you using a factory deck or an aftermarket deck?
If it's aftermarket then there will be usually a blue/white wire that is used for the amp turn on.

If you're using the factory, then it won't have this. Then you could find an ignition controlled wire, and it will shut off whenever the key is turned off. So you could tap into the wire that turns the stock stereo on/off when the key is turned.

On a aftermarket then its blue to blue. If you find a blue wire behind a aftermarket headunit then it is for the remote.

Re: Best place to connect the REM cable???

Just an FYI for later in case you want to do multiple amps. On all of my multiple amp installs I use the REM on the aftermarket head to trigger a relay to supply +12v. Just for extra caution I wire the normally closed side to ground so there is never a chance of the amps trickling the battery dead.

Re: Best place to connect the REM cable???

I read through all these replies, but i have a Pioneer DEH-P6600 cd deck and a power acoustik 980 watt/2 channel amplifier. The amplifier has an REM connection receiving piece on the amp and the small blue wire goes to where? The cd deck? Which wire? Thanks in advance!
