Spare tire area Amp rack, with pics
Hey all, I want to share my spare tire well amp rack. It is made out of 3/4" MDF and bolts to the two stock spare tire bolt holes, no additional holes drilled. It is holding two alpine amps. On the left is a F300 4x50w pushing 4 Infinity 6.5" components in the dash and sail panels. On the right is a M500 500w @ 2 ohm pushing a 12" Image Dynamics IDQ sub.
The rack

Installed in the car

Bolt Locations

Painted

And loaded

I don't have the whole setup in the car yet, I still have some dynamat work to do. Will keep you guys updated.

Good job, should look nice and flush. Hopefully the weatherstripping doesn't get a hole on that side. I plan on doing mine on the other side.

Sure, I'll get some measurements up when I get home tonight. Just remember my rack is designed for my amps. Others amps will require a different size. Also the width of my rack is about as wide as you can go with a rectangular rack. There is a lot more room to go taller.

I've got those same exact 2 alpine amps in my 300zx, good combo. They especially look really nice because they are the same exact size and dimensions in the form of a solid sub amp and a 4 channel.

Looks great! This is exactly what I want to do with my amp and cap. I would love to see some installed pictures when you get it all into the car!

Actually the hole is to ease installation. Its really hard to get the two 5" bolts lined up correctly without being able to see it and get your hands in there to guide them in place. The two bolts actually go in at slightly different angles. The added bonus is less weight and additional cooling. Oh by the way I should add the bolts are M8 metric and probably 4-5" long.

Here's mine, I needed a little more surface area so I made mine a little different. Still need to clean up the wiring a bit though.

The sound deadening I'm using is called Raammat.
http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?p=pr
I am covering virtually everything except the top half of the firewall behind the dash and maybe/maybe not the roof. Depends if I have any left over. The stuff is pretty easy to work with but it is a big job, the whole interior is out of the car minus the dash. This is my winter project. I work on it a couple of hours a week in my free time. I'm probably 75% finished. I have the passenger side door to do yet and a few odds and ends. Then I'll cover the Raammat with 1/8" ensolite foam for a little extra sound deadening. I bought 130sqft and I'm sure I'll use it all.
As for the sub. I am using a single 12" Image Dynamics IDQ. It is going to go in a small sealed box at the bottom of the well area. It will not be the typical big box that sits flush with the hump. It will probably sit just above the steps in the well area. Then I may make a cover for it so you can't see the sub at all.
This project is proving to be pretty large and I keep finding little odds and ends to fix and add to the project. I will start a new post with the total build when I get done. Hopefully in a few weeks.
