ok i just bought an 1987 z28 and i got my 350 and everything for it now i wanna do it up with car audio nice and good.

ok so this is what i have, i have 2 infinity 6x9's already installed, and i have the two 2 stock speakers in the dash, and i have those cool kick plate speaker holders by ur feet and i have 2 alpine tweeters and then i dont know the brand ye but im getting 2 of those circle speakers ha ha. what size amp should i run, and i dont have subs yet till christmas 2009, also will all this hook up to my panasonic deck?

yes it will but idk i would run an amp from 600watts-1000watts

 

you need some kind of four or more channel amp and i be if you have about a 350watt amp it would sound just fine. I worked on a old sting ray corvette at the shop i work at and we put a pair of 6x9s in a custom made box, with only 75 watts a piece and they sounded just like one 10in sub. the way i would hook it up is hook the stock speakers in the dash up to our cd player because i don't think they could handle the watts for every long and then hook your tweeter, your round speakers, and your 6x9s to the amp.

 

If it helps i'll tell you what I'm running in mine and it sound pretty damn good. I went with Blauplunkt 3X5's in the front, 1" kenwood tweeters on the A pillars, Blauplunkt 6X9's in the rear, 2 Kicker 12" subs in a box, 1200 Watt 2 channel amp and 2 Farad Capacitor in a custom box, and a Sony Head Unit.... I think all of it cost around 600 or so. Most of it I bought used from pawn shops or ebay but it all looks good and sounds good. I didnt need a seperate amp for the front speakers just bought crossovers and wired the tweeters to the fronts. If it helps I'll post you a picture or two of the set up...

 

Its all relative to the speakers and amp. If you get a amp not putting out enough juice for the speakers then you risk the amp blowing, On the other hand if you get a amp to big and you give it to much gain it will blow the speakers. I usually get a amp that is a little to big and adjust the gain to my liking but safe enough for the speakers. I am using a 1800watt (max 4ohm) 4ch to run 5.25 components 200w max and 6.5 components 300w max. I have adjusted the gain so that the speakers don't give distortion but im also running crossovers and a big equalizer to give all the bass to the subs. You should look at the power rating of your speakers and try and get a 4ch amp that will be a little more powerful than the speakers and turn the gain down to protect the speakers. Most brands rate there amps max output at 2ohms and bridged so look for a amp that is rated its power at 4ohms.

1000w 4ch amp rated at 2ohm bridgex2 will actually send about 100w a channel ran at 4ohm. Just don't go crazy with the gain and it will work fine and for a really long time.

 

There is a lot of questionable information here.

First you always want to look at the RMS wattages not Peak for both speakers and amps. I would recommend an amp that puts out 40-70 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms. Look at something like the Alpine MRP-F300 or Rockford R300-4 or Polk PA200.4 or Infinity Reference 475a. Trust me 50 watts per channel is plenty of power.

For speakers you should run 4 channels, 2 to the back 6x9s and 2 to the front kickpanels. Since you have kickpanels, just get rid of the speakers in the dash. Your Infinity 6x9 are probably nice speakers, do you have the model number? Since you are running Infinity in the back, I'd recommend getting Infinity components for the kick panels. Do you know what size speaker they can take? Probably 5.25" or 6.5" Check out the Infinity Reference 6020cs or 5020cs depending on size. You can find them for a little more than $100.

This should start you off pretty well. Check out www.crutchfield.com for specs and reviews. Not the cheapest site, but their customer service is top notch.

 

are the speakers in the dash even worth using? there orginal i bet i dont know so there probabably toast, also i have a panasonic CQ-RX400U deck and its says on it 50 wX4 ,

 

Dash speakers are great because you get some nice midrange from them and the 6x9s in the back provide good mid range for a nice flow of sound...

If youres are toast its really easy to take your dash off and replace them and you can fit 5s up there

 

I would def get an amp with more power than you need as Crytical Point suggested and turn down the gain level, stereo decks that say 4x40 or 4x50 or whatever are pretty deceiving cause theres no way you can get that much clean power in that small package. Later.

 

Almost all aftermarket decks are rated at ~50 Watts MAX. They are all 10-20 watts RMS. Only pay attention to RMS values. 50 watts RMS per speaker is plenty. Like I said, just get rid of the dash speakers since you have or will have kickpanel speakers.

so im going to wire a set of infinty 6x9's a set of alpine tweeters, on the kick panel aswell as a set of alpine 6 inch speakers on the kick panel, hopefuly it all works

 

It should last you a long time if you matched the RMS numbers and not go crazy with the gain ****.
