My new sub...
So I was home alone today and bored. I had a marvelous idea and decided to take the ported subwoofer off of my parents 5.1 surround sound home theater system that hasn't been set up in 8 months, and try to put it inside of my GTA! My goal for the audio is to appear stock, but sound great. Not to be heard from blocks away, or rattle the car to pieces. What I have done today is accomplished my goal, and even surpassed it.
My system goes as follows
Sony CDX GT330 Xplod head unit with HD radio tuner
4x6 three way pioneers in the dash
6x9 4 way pioneers in the sails
and a 4 way 600 watt Sony amp that previously powered all of the speakers dash, and sails.
Now what I have done is taken that subwoofer and put it in the spare tire compartment of my GTA. I then bridged my 600 watt amp so that it delivers 300 watts to the sub, and 150 watts to 2 other channels. What I am going to do is make 150 watts go to my each of my 6x9s, and then power the 4x6s in the dash off of my head unit. I am going to move my amp to the drivers side and hide it underneath the lock box ,then cover the sub on the other side so everything is completely hidden.
here are a couple of pics and a video of the system.

In the video I have the 6x9s running off of the head unit, and the dash speakers still on the amp because I was too tired to take off the dashpad to swap the wires, so it will sound a lot better when that is done. This video doesnt do it justice, it sounds amazing from inside the car, all nice clean bass and it hits hard. I had to go and turn down the bass on my head unit so I could hear the words in songs, and it was rattling things on the walls in my garage.

I posted this to give you guys ideas, and because im excited about how it turned out. I will post a better video when its light out and all put together correctly.

Re: My new sub...
Well we shall see. I listened to it for a good hour and a half yesterday and I turned the bass down so its at a safe level even when blasting music which I don't do often.

Re: My new sub...
hey I maybe wrong but check was ohm the sub is running at. Most home subs are 10 ohm..cars 4 or 2. That will kill the sub quick. The best idea would be to get a car sub thats the same size and install it in the inclosure.

Re: My new sub...
i blew my sub once by putting it on the home stereo before i knew about ohms. home stereos run 8/10/16 ohms very high in other words, auto speakers rarely use more than 4 ohms. you'll blow something quick, and that looks expensive

Well I looked up the manual for the system the sub came off of and it said that it was ran at 4 ohms. I looked up the manual to my amp and it said that the when bridged 300 x 1 like I have it puts out 4 ohms as well. I think its going to be fine. Its been over 2 weeks I have had it in the car and it still sounds great!

Re: My new sub...
As far as wrecking stuff impedence only matters for the amp. The sub is a constant load (not really but for our purposes it is). Home audio generally uses 8-16 ohm speakers and car uses 1-4 ohm. Now why does this matter? I'll give an example.
Lets say there is a car amp and it is 100 x 2 at 4 ohms or 400 x 1 briged at 4 ohms. If you hook up an 8 ohm speaker the amp is effectively 200 x 1 so it produces half the power which is half the work load so no problem for the amp.
Now if you take a home stereo it will be something like 100 x 2 at 8 ohms or 400 x 1 bridged. If you hook up a 4 ohm speaker its half the resistence so the amp will try to do 800 x 1 which is double the work load double the heat etc. Not saying it won't work but the potential to break is there.

Re: My new sub...
Yeah that is what I plan to do. It sounds damn good inside the car, the bass is amplified by the rear hatch glass and sent up the front. You cant really hear it out side the car either, the tail lamps rattle a little bit, but I will fix that easily.
