Hey guys, the radio in my 91 Trans Am (factory CD player) just died while cruising on the highway a couple days ago. I was listening to a station when suddenly all I hear is a pop followed by static. Not a single AM or FM station works on my radio. It's all static except I do occasionally hear a quick voice or something. And the scan button almost acts like the tuner except it skips every other frequency unlike the tune button. I checked the connections going to the antenna and behind the radio itself and everything looks good. What gives?

Thanks!

The radio might have just pooped, i currently have a factory tape deck in my 89 camaro that did the same exact thing, i picked up my unit at a swap meet for a couple bucks so it didnt bother me too much that it quit. I dont think that it is a connection problem anywhere i think it just crapped out.

Im currently waiting for a Delco cd player out of a 97 camaro to put in mine.

Yeah I'm assuming that's pretty much it too. I'll head to the junkyard and pull out a radio from some other GM car.

?

I didn't notice anything weird with mine. What am I looking for? And how is the lighter even related?

Re: radio suddenly quit on me
i dont know the specifics but it can cause the radio to go out.

mine went bad and it messed up my radio+lights

look to see if its literally burnt out and check the connections

there are a few threads about it on here

That's weird, but mine looks OK and all the lights look good. I plugged in a radio from an early 2000's Grand Am and it works fine... I just gotta make it fit a little better since it's slightly longer than the stock one.

The cigarette lighter and the stereo are on the same circuit. A bad lighter or something foreign stuck in it can screw up the circuit they share. Hence, check the lighter.

Nah the lighter socket is fine. Apparently the radio just took a dump.

Pardon the cell phone picture quality...

Gave me a pretty nice radio:

I like it much better than stock already. The volume control, tuner, and fade/balance controls are actually *****, something I prefer over the buttons that the stock radio had. I can have 12 FM presets compared to the 5 on the stocker, the LCD screen is red to match the gauges and radio buttons (when lit) unlike stock, and the CD player actually works! Best of all, it has that factory look.
