help with 85 berlinetta radio
I have an 85 berlinetta and i want to put a head unit in because the current stereo is shot. I was told by someone that works with installing stereos that since the swivel radio is so different i need to buy an 85 console that can replace the current one to allow me to put a head unit in. This seemed kinda dumb to me because couldnt i just find a way to attach the head unit down to the current console instead of searching all over to find a different one? i'm just looking for help from anyone that has maybe done the same thing i am trying to or knows about a way to do this.
thanks

Re: help with 85 berlinetta radio
Ok so assuming the pic loaded im guessing your dash looks some thing like the one in the pic here. I mulled this over with my freind dustyn who is a big time 3rd gen camaro lover and a prof stereo installer. he agrees with what you were told but also had another option for you.
In the stereo compition community alot of of guys put there radio in the back or some where hidden then take the face plate off and run a cable ribbon from the radio to the face plate and then mount the face plate where ever they choose. So you could basicly use what you have and build a custom stand that holds your face in the same spot as the old radio. I dont know if this would work but dustyn is sure of it and ive seen his build's so if he says it will work then it will. any way hope this helps let me know

thanks.. I also just found a couple threads of someone else that did the same thing. They took a basic mount and mounted the head unit to where the old one was. Heres the link to the other thread...

Here's a picture of it too, is this what you meant?
