Re: New to the audio world!

For an 800 watt amp you should be ok with a nice 4 gauge amp wiring kit maybe 2 gauge if you ever plan on getting a stronger amp. You should be fine without a cap I'm pushing around 900 watts through 2 12's at 4 ohms and the lights don't dim or anything.

I've gotten a couple Amp wiring kits from Wal-mart, and they work great!

Only problem I have had with it is that the Power wire isn't quite long enough.

Re: New to the audio world!

Do yourself a huge favor - make dam sure that amp wire from the battery to the rear of the car is greatly protected. I've seen too many idiots try and run that wire through the pass door, where it gets crimped every time the door is closed - eventually it cuts the insulation and shorts, causing the battery to short, overheat, and explode - this makes a really nice hot fire under the hood that melts everything including carbs!

I ran my amp wire through a hole I drilled close to the connector that runs the pass side wiring harness out of the cabin and into the fender. I got a 6 inch piece of 3/8 rubber fuel line, cut it lengthwise, and wrapped that around my 2 guage amp wire - then I drilled a hole large enough to hold that (like 5/8), filed it down really smooth, and I worked the amp wire with the fuel hose around it through that hole - that way I have an extra 3/16 of insulation around that amp wire where it runs through the firewall - it will never short with all that protection around it.

You can buy any guage amp wire from any local stereo shop by the foot - it's much cheaper than the kits, and you get what you need that way. Make sure you also run a fuse very close to the battery - mine has a 100 amp fuse within 1 foot of the battery.

No need to run a ground all the way from the front - connect the ground for the amp anywhere to the body at the rear of the car.

Was going to ground it where my spare tire is, i went to my local stereo shop and they only has monster? wire and it was already packaged....i was going to run the wire under the carpet near the passenger side and take it through the firewall under the passenger kickpanel
