okay, so i hooked up my kenwood that i had in my chevy s10 about a year ago, worked great then, i turn the key to on, boom, nothing happens. im getting 12.34 at my constant 12v wire and 11.98 at my switched 12v wire. im 98% sure teh ground is good, and i know the fuse is good. what would cause my stereo no to turn on, that .02 volts that are missing from switched? should i take the stereo appart and see if something inside is arrawy? or should i chock this up as an expensive f-up and roll with a good set of speakers but no stereo to power em?

 

I don't know much about sterio's, but maybe try a different one. Are you sure it worked when you pulled it?

 

i know it worked when i pulled it, i pulled it cause i was selling the s10. the camaro had another stereo in there that i pulled cause it sounded like crap.

 

Which fuse is good? Does the deck have any of the blade type fuses in the back of it? If so, maybe put a test light to the fuse to see if power goes in and out of it.
And dumb question but just in case, did you use the correct wires on the deck. Most commonly a yellow and red for the power wires.

 

ill have to check to see if the blade fuse at the back is getting power. yes its wired up correctly, this aint my first rodeo with car stereo.

 

at the blade fuse it gets .54 volts

 

I'm just checking because its hard to tell around here.
Right now there is someone that keeps double posting simple questions about how to get to the front marker lights and now the high and low beams don't change.
I know not everything is simple to some but jeez, what is with the non searching and going into full panic mode I gotta post in multiple catagories!

 

Both sides of the fuse? Sounds like something inside died. Maybe pull the fuse and see if one side has full power. Also before that check at the plug on the back. Maybe if you're lucky there is a short or bad connection there. Maybe some dirt.

I use to spend 200-300 bux easy all the time for head units thinking I was getting something good. Last time I went to buy a new one it was an emergency because my deck died. When the Cicuit Citys were still around here I picked up a Sony CDX-GT120. It was better than most of the expensive units I had and only cost like $75ish!

Damn good unit, damn good price. Plus I like the screen and the red light!
Only has one set of pre amp outs though. Shame they discontinued this one.

That one looks cool. Shame it died. If all the wiring checked out all the way to the unit maybe it would not hurt to open it and inspect for something burned or loose.

 

opened it up, burnt up a coil in side just engouh to cause 2 ohms of resistance more than it should have. ****. looks like its ebay time to see if i can find another oe of these.

 

****, I thought I had a kenwood deck in the garage that may have had a part you could de-solder and replace. I have a panasonic left. Don't know where that kenwood went to???

I have seen different refurbished units on Amazon before, but sometimes they sell those refurbs as much as new cost.

really......... your dead burnwood sounds better than all 3 of my working pioneers.

kenwood decks dont last.

i buy the high end pioneer models,and the sound you get has a lot to do with your speakers,and these cars interiors dont help,except the rear glass with subs.
