Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

Hi all, was wondering if anyone had pics or a manual how to fix the belts on the blaupunkt cassette deck. And what the belt sizes were for it. I have the uq7 stereo. Thank you very much for your time.

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

I don't I used the instructions that came with the belt kit, do two or more and you won't even need the instructions anymore, plus I lost them. Although next time I do one I'll take pics.
Idk what the Camaro UQ7 stereo is post a pic and I'll link you to the right kit.

I have a Trans Am. It's the uq7 with the sub gain switch and 5 band equalizer. Do I have to take the stereo apart to get to the belts? The performance Sound group option

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

Yes its very easy though. All that matter is the equilizer on the stereo for the kit they all pretty much come apart the same. get this ( http://www.fierostore.com/Product/De...5557&d=276&p=1 ) it has instructions with it. First time out may take you 30 mins to and hour. I can do this in 5 minutes.

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

I too would love to have my deck working. I had called Blaupunkt directly 2 years ago and told the rep that I was looking for belts for one of their decks from the 80's. He laughed at me. I ended up having a MP3 jack installed, but still miss the deck.
In case you can't get the belts to work but want to retain the radio and would like to be able to play MP3's, check out the following link (my post is #9) https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/car-...cks-w-aux.html

Dizz, I just ordered the belts (pictorial directions are a bonus!) and hope that this 20 bucks will get my deck rockin' again. Thanks for the link!

Thanks!

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

Changed the belts today and it still does the same thing, the only thing left is the drive motors =(. Idk how to fix that tho. On a side note tho, now my car goes below 500 rpm when i stop at a light what's going on? sounds like it wants to die and also at start up it'll start normally idle at the right but sounds like it wants to die too.??????

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

what problem are you having with the cassette player?
I have been using a blaupunkt transport delco in my car
since 1993(radio came from '84 cadi)I have had to
fix it several times since then as it gets heavy usage.
Besides the usuall loose/broken belt problems and worn
heads, there are a couple other problems common with
these:
-if it crimps tapes that usually means the pinch rollers
have hardened-this is fairly common with the early
white hub pinch rollers,the later(around 1990 up)
black hub pinch rollers don't seen to have this problem
and fit the earlier versions.Older alpine pinch rollers
also fit if the bronze bushing is shaved on the sides
just a little-the older alpine ones have brass hub with
a bronze bushing.
-had a motor go bad once, brushes wore down so much
the brush position on the commutator was shifted and
motor started to run fast -apparently the motor's
speed control circuit could not compensate enough...

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

I will put in a tape the up and down arrows will flash and it will eject. It acts like it's changing sides and will spit the tape out. I changed the belts and it still does it. Dad said it was the motor do you think it is?

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

bad motor is one of the possible causes, but there are
several others-above the reel drive pulley(usually it's
black, driven by the short belt)is an optical pickup to
detect rotation of this pulley-if the pulley stops for more
than a certain amount of time the player will switch
directions then eject the tape if pulley rotation is still not
detected.if cassette mechanism is positioned too low on
the bracket pulley can rub on bracket and stop when the
mechanism is down in the play position.
Try a clear cased cassette where movement of the tape
can be observed-if no movement probably a bad motor
or no power getting to motor due to broken wire or
other electrical problem.

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

I tried the clear cassette trick and it seems like no movement of the tape is occurring. What to do from here?

I doubt my local junk yard has trans ams lying about. But, I will try. But, i'm taking a gamble with that, is there a safer way?

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

DizzTransAm's suggestion is a good one-will get you a
spare parts stash for your radio tooyou don't need to
check for just trans ams-lots of different 1984-Ca.1994
GM vehicles used the blaupunkt tape transport in the
upper end cassette decks:check cadillacs,astros,s-10s,
buicks,pontiac 6000s etc.though those years.The later
blaupunkt transports,around 1989 up used a different
motor and i am not sure if those interchange with the
earlier ones, but its likely they do.These radios are
very common in my local junkyards and i automaticly
grab them when found most i find are in '85-90
midsize FWD cadillacs...

Bingo, the stereo in my T/A is from a 88 LeSabre with a 89 Deville cassette chassis. Just find any car with a 5 way equilizer. Cadi/Olds/Buick would be the best as their susual less used.

Yep bring $2 for entrance fees and your tools. Easyest cars to find it in is '86 - 91 Cadillac Eldorados and Seville as that style stereo was the standard one for those cars. Dash is cake to breakerr take apart

Re: Factory Blaupunkt Cassette Deck Repair

I called about 7 local junk yards and even some that are hours away and they all said they dont have radios or those car models I mentioned. In brooklyn it's hard to find junkyards cause everybody leases in NY. Thirdgens are rare here. I'm going to keep calling though. Is there any way you can send me one? I'll pay for it and the shipping if the price is right.

That could be arranged it'll be about $40, shipped the only concern I have is that it eject and fast forward and reverse buttons won't match your deck.
