Re: hacking away

If your talking about the hard plastic trim pieces, you could use a jigsaw with a very fine tooth blade.Drill a hole inside the area to be cut out.and cut your shape from there.Hope this helps.

Re: hacking away

Why are you trying to install 6x9's and in what location?

Why in the back?

Re: hacking away

I am confused as to why there is a need to cut something to install factory-sized speakers.

I am also wondering where this "vinyl" was found? Cutting the seats?

Re: hacking away

mine are installed in the plastic panels right next the the rear passengers ears. i was wondering why everyone else had 6x9's and i didnt also. it is because it came from the factory without a radio i am assuming and someone installed the speakers themselves. it was done pretty well, they took the time to hide the wires under all the plastic and used some decent (for the day) pioneer speakers.

not sure why i said vinyl, i was a little tired when i posted this.
so has no one else ever had to hack at the plastic in their cars?

Re: hacking away

Pull the plastic panel off, The speakers sit behind there.

Re: hacking away

As he said you need to remove the sail panel (the screw is hidden in the hook at the top).

Behind that may well be just a hole in the b-pillar if your car had a stereo delete. A car that did get a stereo had a bare steel plate over that hole which fit a 6x9 speaker.

Since most cars had a stereo this plate should be very easy to find in the junkyards.

You'll want to buy new sail panels at the junkyard as well.

BTW, you want to see a funny rear speaker installation I found in one of the Camaro's I bought...

wood will work for a bit, but it will get moldy and that's usually something you don't want in a car. the material they use to make cutting boards is a great alternative - thick, mold resistant, and heavy duty. if you take your time cutting it, it shouldn't melt either.
