Re: speakers in the side compartment?

Not really sure what you mean, if you mean in the back and dont mind customing the panals then u can use 4th gen boxes, box fits great BUT 4th gen panals do NOT fit, you need to custom it to clear the hatch shocks, and bring it out aprox an inch from the edge to wrap around the box correctly (as per pic), really not that difficult I dont think, if u can glass.

Here is a mock up picture, as u can see, the panel has to come over about an inch to cover the box correctly and needs some custom glassing to m8 up with the 3rd gen panels, aslo the hatch shocks drop low and would hit the 4th gen panel where it m8's to the 3rd gen panel, as you can see I marked the spot where it hits

If you mean hidden behind stock panels, pssenger side is easy, just remove the useless 25year old spare tire (nobody sane will try and drive with a 25year old spare tire) and stick a box in there. 10" Sub, box and amp, total stealth.

Not much room on the driver side as the neck for the gas tank runs there, I am not sure what you could custom in the glove box area there yet and keep it hidden.
There once was a guy that sold custom boxes that replaced the glovebox under the stock panel with a JL W3 (cant remember if it was a 8" or 10" or even the 6"), he went off to Iraq years ago and I have never seen them listed since.

Re: speakers in the side compartment?

No problem

Ya that 1st pic was just a mock up to see if the 4th gen boxes fit the 3rd gen contour, there almost identical back there, lol

My car looks like this, so I had to cut my stock panals anyways, and I had a few 4th gen boxes kicking around at the time so I stuffed one in to see.

Re: speakers in the side compartment?

wow nice looking rear.... ok i know that didn't sound right but you know what i meant lolol I'm relocating the battery since I'm doing a twin turbo build and wont have much room up front plus I'll have my nitrous, meth and amps back there so fitting the 8's into the sides so i can still have some tunes is about the only thing i can think of.

Re: speakers in the side compartment?

You can also get creative and fit speakers as big (maybe bigger) as 10" in the sail panels and do away with the 6X9" stock sized speakers. Mine ended up looking pretty good.

This is an 8" Kenwood eXcelon sub in the sail panel befor the cover goes on..

Alot of that is personal preference, brands I like are
JL Audio
Image Dynamics
Hertz
Focal
Orion
Alpine
origanal MB Quarts

Cheap but decently okay, I found I could really load there amps up for a beating and they took it
Hifonics
New MB Quart

Huge watts, doesnt always mean better speaker, when choosing keep an eye on the RMS and match amps and speakers acordingly

Stay away from PowerBass, I swear its the worst amp I have ever tried

Re: speakers in the side compartment?

good info, thanks

so right now i'm thinking to 8's in the rear side compartments, 2 8's in the sail panel spot, 2 5's in the doors, and the 4x7's in the dash... should sound pretty good.

that many speakers is going to be loud, but its not going to sound good or accurate. when it comes to systems, stick with the "KISS" motto; a quality set of components up front in the kicks (forget the doors and dash) and a single good sub will sound better than a bunch of cheaper ones set up everywhere there's room. less likely to get cancellation, frequency peaks, and overall easier tuning.

Best advice regarding car stereos. Loud does not always equal good. A properly matched and balanced system will sound so much better. Oh, and use some material such as dynamat or an equivalent to reduce/eliminate the rattles. It will vastly improve the sound quality of the stereo.

thanks for the input guys. well i'm not trying to throw something cheap together. i thought that many speakers would sound good but what you said makes sense.

so kick panel speakers, 8's where the 6x9's go and maybe one 8 or 10 inch sub in the rear side compartment would do the job. as far as sub would something like an l7 do well for this set up? any advice on the component speakers?

thanks again you guys rock

those are some fancy subs you got there Al lol I have to hand it to you i would not have had the patience to seal off that area the way you did

to the OP heres 2 things that caught my eye in this thread, one if you do 2 subs in the rear and face them toward eachother you are essentially canceling out the sound waves because they will clash and dissipate, making it useless, if you angle them you will be much happier with the output.

Two: the quality of your speakers will matter. Budget jobs are alright but if youre adding a good amount of bass you want a good amount of mids and highs to level it out, so if you like alot of bass, you should probably run a 4 channel to amplify a GOOD set of speakers, doesnt have to be anything crazy like focals but you also dont want to be running BOSS speakers or something cheap. there is no real need for 3 different subs, i just built a fiberglass box for my W1's and it hammers, quality is better than quantity with car audio

Im gonna warn you its an expensive game, Im an installer by trade and i still dump alot of money into my system but once you hit that point where youre happy with it theres nothing better

well i'm not on a budget (thats come up a few times) i just want a good well rounded system. i listen to everything from christian, country to rock to the ocacsional rap.i want it to sound good for any type of music i put in.

as far as the subs cancelling out eachother... doesnt those bandpass boxes do that? the ones that face eachother? or is that different?

thanks for the input. right now i'm thinking about those 8's in the rear and maybe one of those square speakers in the hatch side compartment.

i tried finding some kick panels on ebay and had no luck. if anyone makes a pair and wants to sell them let i'd be interested.

thanks

They dont cancel each other out, they are too far apart, you have no idea how many 4th gens I have done like that over the years and they pound like a ****, plus you get the advantage of still having some storage area

other then that, most of the stuf Blu says on here is decent advice

Re: speakers in the side compartment?

Heres what I just built, the cancellation is based off MECP training, you can do it but there will still be cancellation, negligible at best but still present, not only that but at equal distances the waves will mature at the same point clashing.

Re: speakers in the side compartment?

Kind of an old thread, but I really like what Justins86bird did with the install. I have been debating what to do as far as the subwoofer, as I am a big fan of hiding whatever I can. Anybody put a 12" sub in the rear Drivers side storage compartment? I am debating putting an infinity kappa perfect 12" sub there with an Infinity kappa one (1,600 watt) amp. So far this year I have installed a pioneer Deh 9500bt with a set of Infinity kappa 60.9cs (Kick panels) and a pair of kappa 6x9's. Time to break out the fiberglass mat and the respirator, LOL.

How did this end up sounding? Did you get enough low end with that small of a box? I want to copy that exactly. Super clean
