Has anyone installed a set of 4x6 Dashboard speaker grills over thier cracked dash grill? I wanna put some in my IROC, but I wanna get the communities opinion. I made a photoshopped image to show what Im trying to explain.

I can't think of any reason why you couldn't cut that area out leaving just enough a lip for the aftermarket grill to fit. It would be kinda of like some of the stock Firebird dash pads that have removable speaker grills.

Unfortunately no...They cannot be interchanged. One off the dashes front to back, I forget which, is deeper, so a gap is left.

Re: Dashboard Speaker Grills???
I wouldn't attempt cutting up my dash if it was in good condition. If you don't like how the project turns out, or you screw up, that's a pretty costly mistake. I would try this first on a shitty dash with cracks all over it and see how it turns out.

Re: Dashboard Speaker Grills???
I ended up fiberglassing my dash and I did cut out the grills that covered the original 4x6 speakers. I ended up installing 5-1/4" component 'top mount' speakers in place of the 4x6s. From the looks of it, it looks like you could install 6-1/2" speakers if they were top mounted as well, however since I haven't tried it yet, I am unsure exactly.
Fabric to use
Just wanted to share some info.
I found a fabric that feels like suede and is used in very high end cars. It's called Alcantara.
There is a usa product called Ultrasuede which costs about $90.00 a yard and cheapest I cound Alcantara so far is $110.00 per yard.
http://www.alcantara.com/#/en/home
http://www.alcantara.com/#/en/menu/a...ons/automotive
From wiki: Alcantara is composed of about 68% polyester and 32% polyurethane giving increased durability and stain resistance. The appearance and tactile feel of the material is similar to that of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suede, and it may be incorrectly identified as such.
