Kick panels coming soon!

While I don't own a thirdgen anymore, I used to have two. I made custom kickpanels for both, and due to the lack of a good spot to put speakers in a 3rd gen, I will be making them for people to buy.
Here are the details:

1. The will be hand made fiberglass, no cheesy plastic like Q-forms

2. The will be covered in either tweed or vinyl. It depends on cost and what most people would want. I could also sell them uncovered if someone wanted to cover them theirself.

3. The will hold up to a 6 1/2" and tweeter. I will cut the hole smaller if you want a 5 1/4" and tweeter set, also, I could leave out the tweeter hole if you want to install a coax. Remember, each one will be hand made.

4. The driver side will extend right about to the dead pedal edge. This should keep it from interfering with the clutch.

5. They will not replace your kick panel, instead they will fit into the indented area (if you wave carpet on the factory ones, it goes in that area). You will cut a hole in your existing kickpanel to allow for speaker depth, and screw these "pods" on from the back.

6. The speaker mounting surface will be flat, you will use the grills that came with your aftermarket speakers for installation (fancy recessed custom grills would drive the price way up)

7. I am shooting for a sub $200 price point. These are not going to be IASCA pro quality kick panels that you'd normally pay $700 for, however, I am striving to make a good quality product as an alternative to cheesy plastic Q-forms.

I will keep you posted and will post pics when I get my prototypes done.

Mike

I will post pics as soon as I get the prototypes made. I am working on molds right now.

If you have further questions and want quicker feed back ( I check the board every couple days), feel free to email me at lacher@lachernet.com .

Prices will be $200 or less, depending on final cost to make these and how much time it takes to make a set. I will have some sort of "introductory price" to get these out to you guys so you can try them out and post your thoughts for others to read. If anyone is "seriously" interested, please send me an email to keep on file so I can keep an idea of how much interest there is and how low I can price them and still make a little bit of money (this is a side thing, so I'm not looking to get rich, but it probably will take atleast 2 to 3 hours a set even after I spend ??? days on the molds and prototypes ).

I have been interested in the Q-form version, but from the photos they looked like they would interfere with the left foot, especially in a stickshift car working the clutch pedal. What is your opinion on this and the version you will be making? I might be interested too......

I am trying to not have these kicks extend past the dead pedal, but to just barely cover it. Will this interfere with a clutch ? (My 3rd gens were auto).

Also if anyone is in my area (Hanover PA), I would be willing to work out a killer price on a finished set if you let me test fit in your car. I am going off of a prior set of kicks I made for size and also my memory of my 91 Firebird.

Tom, i had the q-forms and finally got rid of them. My car is an auto, but they stuck out way to far for my likeing. Now that i have the factory kick panels in there, i will never go back to q-forms.

Hmm.....well I will be converting my car from an auto to a manual, so it's a consideration.

Did you think they interfered so bad you decided to get rid of them for that reason?

Well, my shoe size is 13, so room is at a premium. When i had the q-forms in there, i had to rest my left foot against the qforms and my shoe was touching the brake pedal at the same time. Plus, when going around a turn fast, there was really no place for me to put my left foot to brace myself, so i kinda slid around in the seat. The pass side doesnt stick out as far at the d/side does. They are also just molded in black and painted what ever color you buy.

Pic 1 is d/side, pic 2 is p/side
