Double din W/ performance readouts...

I've been looking around trying to find a good radio with the usual goodies, ie: navi,BT,IPod,etc.

But does anyone make one that you can connect to your ECM, wideband, and other parameters where you can select your readouts similar to having a laptop w/ hptuners except not being able to change the tune?
I'd love to have it available right there and not have to add an a pillar gauge pod.

Kenwood will with the right adapter. Thing is, I doubt they support older stuff. The adapter that is needed for the newer stuff isn't cheap either.

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

I've done a lot of research on the parrot, not really interested in something like it, as it seems to be not much different than a tablet in the dash. I'm looking for something with FM radio and engine parameter readouts.

Which pioneer units support these additional inputs?

Scroll down and you will see the vehicle integration stuff. You will have to Google or go to a stereo shop for detailed info.

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

I ran a Pioneer App Radio 2, with OBD WiFi adapter, then you download a app called DashCommand.

AppRadio is about $230ish with needed wires.
OBD Adpater is around $20ish
and Dash Command App is $9.99.

I was running this in a saturn vue, but I found the idea here. I am sure someone can point you to the thread.

He doesn't want a tablet. Read above. That sounds like a lot more work than what he's after.

It really is, if you have a android/iphone you buy the OBD adpater and download the app and it essentially does the same thing as the performance turning on the laptop (what he is looking for), except the app is on your phone, and the app radio connects to your phone and mirrors the apps on the double din.

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

this would be great, except our cars are OBDI, not OBDII, there doesn't seem to be a Bluetooth or WIFI adapter for OBDI. this setup would only work on cars after 1996 unless he changes the vehicle wiring to OBDII along with the motor swap

You sure, cause someone here was running one. Plus, the adapter I had was WiFi not bluetooth, less issues with WiFi. I'll see if I can find one.

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

Could you plug this into OBD1, convert to OBD2, then use the Wifi or bluetooth adapter to connect to your phone to run the software?

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

Great question, but I don't believe so, because the information given through OBDI VS OBDII is different, that adapter would only allow a scan tool to read trouble codes on an OBDI system if it also had the correct software to do so. I think the harness that he buys for the engine/ECU swap should also have the OBDII connector and software, if it does then there are many more options open to him. BTW, the Idatalink/maestro module could be compatible with the donor vehicles OBDII system, and might work with the Kenwood radio. I will add that GM vehicles are among the very few that do have live sensor stream information available in OBDI and IF a connector did exist that I don't know about, it is very possible to do what he wants with OBDI

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

I really wish it was possible, I have the ebl flash in my car, which runs on windows, I'm looking for the same thing, but one that can just run a windows program. There are windows base double din stereo's out there, but I can't say for sure if you can install a windows program to it. Does anyone know if that is possible? The next option is to build a car pc with a touch screen, but I still don't know if you can read OBD 1 with it unless you have the ebl flash. A car pc is lots of work and $ too!

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

I can't remember the company, it was like apexi or greddy, something more regarded as import parts, made a box that you installed whatever sensors and wired to the box that plugged into a double din touch screen stereo, it had a remote to adjust what things you wanted to monitor to appear on the screen, it could actually be plugged into anything that had a yellow/white/red input. I almost bought one for my rx7 before it died.

This is very close to what I was looking for. What other parameters do you get to choose from?

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

That screen shot is just from the fuel economy, if you notice on the left, those buttons.

Top is Speed, RPMs, and you can change between HP, TRQ, Air Flow, Etc, the 3rd one shows all kinda stuff like distance traveled, fuel mileage, etc. the 4th one, which is what you will want, shows Coolant temp, engine temp, MAF, MAP, etc etc.

I will post some more screen shots.

You can do A LOT with this setup, NO TUNING, just show, but what do you expect for a setup that cost around $300 and that's including the cost of the double din..

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

oh yeah, it also has a performance mode that will when you are at a stop and turn it on and accelerate it will calculate 0-60, 100 foot, 1/8th and 1/4th mile times/speed. Not sure how accurate it is, but it's close.

Like I said, I have this all hooked up in my Saturn Vue lol, but I got the idea from here and only setup in my Saturn to test it out while building my trans am.

About what I paid for mine, but this one has the iPhone 5 adapter included, not sure what type of phone you have but some are more complicated to hook up to it than others.

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

I don't think that will work with obd1 cars. OBD2 came out because of the government made a law to do so. It standardized things like the computer language and made everything more universal along with other things. That's why there's not much aftermarket support for OBD1. Every cars computer ran operated differently, and that makes for a narrow market.

Re: Double din W/ performance readouts...

the OP says he is doing a LS, so as long as he runs the plug inside it will be OBD2 and all the new gadgets and things will work.

i use android Samsung S4 and "torque pro" which does everything that dash command does but its 5 bucks for the full version. has support for my yukon for towing, trans temps, gm knock retard and the new CAN stuff for my other cars. just using a fairly cheap OBD2/bluetooth adapter.
