I noticed my in dash fronts are driving all the sound while the 6x9s in the rear pale in comparison big time. Not sure if my deck can't handle the speakers I put in the rear. They are kicker brand and have massive magnets (i'm no audio enthusiast or expert).

Factory speaker wire has all been replaced. When you crank the radio the factory replacement style pioneers produce all the bass and start cracking a bit. While the rear just makes mediocre output.

 

Try adjusting the fader on your radio, the fader changes where the sound is coming from, mess around with it and you will fix your problem

I've found that, in my 88 as well as my Sunfire, I have to crank the fader towards the rear to get balanced output. In the 88, on the Eclipse, I have to set it to R03 (out of I think 8) and the 01 is set to the same (out of 4 on the JVC).

 

Adjust fader... the "stock" amp in any deck can only do so much...
Large magnets usually require more power to be louder...

 

Pioneer 1.5 din deck. Played with the fade and it helped but the output Bass wise isn't great and doesn't seem to go all that loud the sound gradually gets better as you fade it back to the fronts. I had this same setup in a vette which seem to have sounded much better for some reason. Maybe the rears are a bit too much, Ive had stock delco 6x9s that putout more bass and loud then these.

 

If you are runnig an aftermarket head unit, just go the extra mile and add an amp with pre-amp inputs. That way you can just use you existing wires and not have to deal with RC inputs. You should also be able to control the output to your speakers from the amp.(depending on the amp)

 

The rears could be out of phase also. Fade to rear left then to rear right, if it sounds more bassie out of one side or the other instead of the together they could be out of phase.

I know you stated they are working better now but I just wanted to add that either your 50x4 deck is simply not giving your high end speaker enough power, or you might be expecting too much from a 6x9. While heavier in bass than other size speakers, they are not designed for that purpose. If you still find your bass not meeting your expectation you may consider either subs in the rear or a high quality component system for your fronts. Either way you will need to look for an aftermarket amp to do either of the approaches I mention.

 

He's on to something here. Most aftermarket speakers are severely under-powered by the 50 watt max you head unit is producing. Stock or stock replacement speakers do sound better than your aftermarkets because they are matched for the lower output power of a headunit. It is also 99% sure that your 6x9s are rated much higher than your 4x6s and if they receive the same power the 4x6s will always sound better and louder. Past getting lower wattage rated speakers or installing an amp you can try buying some of the 6x9 enclosures that were used in the bose audio optioned cars. Common on the GTAs i think. They are just a cardboard or plastic piece that slips in the 6x9 area to make it an actual enclosure rather than just being mounted to a B pillar support.

 

I have 2 way 6x9 Pioneers in the rear with 3 way 6 1/2in pioneers front with a Kenwood deck and they are not made to produce a decent sounding deep base.
That does not stop them from sounding great.
I have always liked the Pioneers.


I left my dash alone and installed the 6 1/2in in the doors.

 

What are the rears rated for for OHMs? Not all factory radios can handle driving all speakers, esp. 2/4 ohm ones and sound will barely come out. I bought rear 2-way Infinitys for my car many years ago and had to wait until I replaced the head unit with an aftermarket Kenwood to get decent SPL from them.

What she's describing sound exactly like low OHM speakers being connected to amps that require 6+ ohms.

Also, speaker sensitivity could play a much smaller role with sound levels if the new ones have lower sensitivity than the front speakers. But, I'm willing to bet it's an ohm issue.
