It's up to you. We aren't the ones that are going to be using it. I have no interest in minidisk at all, and with MP3 popularity growing every day, minidisk will get squeezed out of the consumer marketplace faster than DAT and DCC. Hehe. Anybody remember DCC?

IMHO, your better off geting a CD player that can play CDRWs. Not only is the equipment cheaper, but so is the medium.

Typical MD naysayers. Here is the deal, everyone who has a fast connection and good to great computer assumes everyone else does to. So its only logical that they think that if they can download and burn MP3s easily, everyone else can.
I for one am a complete idiot when it comes to computers. Some guys can find, download, (or rip) and then burn MP3s and then deal with playing with them in the car. I don't want to. With minidisc, I put in a disc, a minidisc, and hit one button. BAMMMMM I have a digital copy.
I bought an MD because I want a portable (still haven't found a good deal yet), want to hold several hours of music, and don't want it to be huge (like the Rio one) or expensive.
Depending on what player you are talking about, it depends.

But nowdays, you dont even need a PC to make CDs. There are many home stereo recorders out there. Put in the CD you want to record, throw in a blank 20 cent CD and press record. The dual trays even do 4x recording to speed up the process. A minidisc is fine for portable use, but having a minidisc deck in a car seems to limit the choices because of the lack of pre-recorded minidiscs. Now if you had a CD deck and a minidisc changer, you might have something. But with the cost of expensive blank minidiscs, I think they will end up like the 8 track did.

No offense, but think about it for a second. MP3 is better than Minidisc because there is a lack of prerecorded minidics? I can't remember the last time I went to the Sam Goody or Wherehouse and dropped $10 and got MP3 music either.
Why are your choices limited anyway? In either case, you need something at home (hell, Sony had a recorder for the car too) to pull it off anyway. So either way, you need a recorder of some sort to pull it off. I for one like the MD changer, CD player, but the other way around works as well (CD changer, MD player).

All the decks in cars that can play MP3s can also play regular pre-recorded CDs. If you had a minidisc deck and you buy a new CD at a music shop, how can you play it without first taking it home and recoding it to a minidisc? And besides, Jim said MP3s, not me
I was merely comparing minidisc to CD. I was talking about taking tracks off different CDs and burning them to a single CDR and meaning it would be cheaper to do that then minidisc.

well, I have yet to decide myself..how about this, I get the MD player(for the car) and recorder(for the Computer) and 20+ blanks for $200.. Put it in, and after X-mas get a CD changer that works on the FM band...I can get that real real cheap...I really like the idea of minidisks becuase they don't scratch or become affected by heat like CDs do, seeing how I live in Miami (FL) I've had a few good CDs go to the trash from heat damage from being in the car...now the question would become, where in the car can I put a 6 disk changer that I can reach while driving without compromising space?
i never even heard of a DCC. I knwo about dats.
Personally, i prefer CD-R's over CD-RW's and MD. CD-Rs are so cheap compared to CD-RW's, and if you dont like a disk, throw it away rather than REWRITE. Thats what i think, i mean .. CD-R's are about 40 cents when buying bulk.

Dude don't waste your money on a totally useless MD player. They are a RIP OFF! Like these guys have said it's harder to find Minidisc's than CD-r's, A hell of a lot more expensive than a CD-R, and you can't stick a Minidisc into nothing other than a Minidisc Player! At least I can play my CD-R's in Both my Cars, in my Jambox at work, my portable Discman, In my DVD player(both of them) and even burn movies on the CD-R's and play them on the DVD players, play them in my computer and even use them for extra storage for software! What the hell can you do with a MiniDisc again?
Forget it and go buy a CD-RW from Wal-Mart for $100.00 and take the other $100.00 and buy me a Christmas Present!

Jobryan,
To each his own. I for one like MD. A "ripoff" it is not. Portables are WAY smaller, compare an MDLP player to any solid state MP3 portable and the MD player wins hands down. If you consider that memory to get one hour of music costs about $40, and a new MD that holds 5 times that costs $2, it quickly adds up.
The real questions is why you are buying an MD player. For some things its cool, for others it isn't as good as MP3 players. If you are a whiz with computers, already have a burner and have newer CD players and don't really care about the size of a portable unit (or won't use it often) then maybe MP3 is for you. If you want a small portable, have three left thumbs when it comes to computers, and want something easier to play with, go with the MD. You can mail order stuff for reasonable prices.
