Let me ask you a couple of questions first. Are you looking for sound quality, thunderously low bass, DB drag, loudness, or what? What sound are you looking for and what style do you listen to? That all helps to find out what type of subs would work best.

I listen to rap. So I want something that hits hard. Something that will make it hard to breath when I got the system turned up.

I have 2 Infinity perfect 12s and when I turn it up it gets hard to breath. I love these subs and would recommend them to anyone.

Look into brands like Rockford, Cerwin Vega and Kicker. Don't limit yourself though. There are countless brands out there that make some seriously loud subs. Your amplifier is going to be more important than the subs though. I hit over 141dB with Oz subs, which are definately NOT known for their output capabilities.

The old Kicker speakers are good but nothing what they used to be. I used to say that about Rockford until this last year when their latest models came out. THe one really good Kicker that you would love would be the L7 square subwoofer.
Also the Infinity's give some thunderously low bass, I agree. The Alumapro's kick butt, so do Kove's, Vega's are kind of weak this year, but I would go w/ Rockford Fosgate or Kove's. They both give some good bass. As far as amps go I would go w/ the Alumapro's or Aura. Aura's (only drawback) is that they draw so much current that if you run more than one then you have to get a 2nd battery but I guess that is a good thing b/c it pumps those subs.

I messed up, I meant for the amps to either go w/ Rockford or Aura. Visit Aura's website: http://www.aurasound.com

Another great amp is the Memphis 1000D Mono Block Amplifier. It puts our 1100 Watts @ 1 ohm. The nice thing is that it is a class D amp and is very efficient and does not put a great strain on your electrical system. Also, the power from one amp is more than enough to drive 2 12's. Good Luck.

i heard about that memphis amp, it kicks a$$, but isnt it a little expensive? anyways, about subs, any of the higher end stereo companies make great subs for rap. i personally like Rockford cuz ive had their stuff in my car since i was old enuf to drive. alot of people like JL, but i think they are a little too pricey. but they do sound excellent. i think the best combo ive heard was a ppi amp with jl 10w6 subs. I was gonna do that but my budget wouldnt allow it. dont forget about soundstream too, they make sum good subs as well. Dont neglect your amp too, cuz the more power you can send those subs, the better they will sound.

i resent what Harvey said. i have cervin vega-vega series 10-4's i have 2 of them w/a 100 watt old school alpine amp. they are in the wrong size and type box, and i have been entered DB drag and put our 139.8 db at 45 htz. no flaming intended but if u get upper lever CV's i.e. vega series, stroker......i'll put any amout of money u'll never switch brands of woofers. i am putting the correct box in my car this weekend and i am expecting somewhere in the 142-144 db area which is astonishing for only a 100 watt amp.

Hey I never heard those model line Vega's. I guess I heard some of the bottom of the line Vega's and they sounded like crap. I wasn't trying to flame ya bro I was just making an opinion. Not meant to **** you off. I would feel the same way if you slammed Aura amp's too.

haha, yeah, you get a set of CV strokers in your car and you'll be set. My friend ran 2 of them (15's) in his VW rabbit. At DB drag finals he was hitting a 169 before a rather large accident . The down side to them is that they retail at about $800 per sub.

mike harvey, i didn't mean an ounce of disrespect twords u or ur opinions. and ur right u probaly heard CV's sorriest peice of s*hit subs the all black Stealths. they suck. the Vega series are all black w/red double surround and the CV insignia in the middle. and i decided to go w/a different amp i now have a 600 watt Alpin v12 amp. i love it, i put my car on a db meter w/the 2 10's and i hit 162.1 db. if u take a book and compare CV Vega series u will be surpised how nice they are, but this is just my opinion but i love my sub's but other people have their opinion........plse remember this is just my opinion.

oh yeah, forgot to mention, F-body's are considered one of the best BASS cars b/c of the large rear window. we automaticall get about an extra 5-6 db b/c of it.....just another reason to buy a camaro of firebird

hey the best speakers are the L7 square subs from KICKER SOLOBARIC. they hit soo hard, my friend has two in his S10 Extreme and i had to get out of his truck to breathe literally.. but there isnt an amp out there that will challenge them.. he had 1200 watts.. and he blew the amp.. smoke rolled .. it was kinda funny.. oh and the squares fit in the back good.. and it looks good also.. but remember you car will rattle to SH*T.. you need some money for these also.. they are quite expensive.. but have fun and stay deaf..

I'm also having a hard time believing 162 db from a pair of 10's with 600 watts, but until I witness different, I'll just say DAMN!

My personal preference is the Kicker Solo12L7 (Square) I have just 1 in my car and it is killer! I hear that the 15's are extremely loud, but lack in the sound quality area. No offense intended, but rap is usually about loud bass anyway. I listen to rock and metal, and the Solo 12 is awesome. Now my Comp 12's in my other car sound like crap to me, too much midbass.

My one reccomendation is to try to find someone with what you are thinking about buying installed in a thirdgen and taking a listen. This will definately teel you what it will sound like!

This is in response to the comments between my system & Will0325's system. The only other system that I read about doing that was in the new Auto SOund & Security magazine and this truck w/ 2 10"'s shocked everybody and took first place w/ a new record for the 2 10"'s category, he hit a 160.7db. Now that's crankin. Will should be able to kill people in his category.
Also in response to my system, when I hit the 161.8db my system wasn't even railed yet. The amps and the subs were pushing out at a full 100%. We didn't have it tweeked for that we had it set for Sound Quality. The bass settings on my deck are at a -2, both subwoofer amps have a bass adjustment for minimum & maximum settings, mine is at the minimum setting and also the other bass settings go from -8 to +8 and both amps are set at -2. I would be pretty damn close to 170db when I have it tweeked for DB Drag competitions. I can tell you guys what I will be taking home many a trophies when they come to my area. Hehehehehe Later guys

Sorry I missed one key word in this sentence when I posted on this line, "The amps and the subs were pushing out at a full 100%."

I meant that the subs & amps were NOT pushing out at a full 100%. Now that I got myself clear and don't sound like an idiot, I'll leave now; lol

thanks Harvey, we seem to be on the same page. i think u guys are judging DB while listening to MUSIC. i hit 160 DB w/my bass test cd. it is a competition cd, i put it on the 45 htz track and let it do one bass drop. thats how u are supposed to judge sound, not by "lets put in this Cd and listen to this song and see how loud." just clarifying, not flaming anyone.

You are talking about the L7, I have one for sale if anyone is interested. brand new, still in box.$225, also XS100 amp,$350

On the SPL's, it's getting amazing the numbers people are hitting now day. More technology is coming into play. Computers to desgn port size and wave legnths, etc.
I remember the days when 150's were unheard of...then 160's. Now the big boys are hitting close to 170's on a B&K!(flashdance)
Speakers are getting better, and some are designed for one application. Like SPL only, some are made for SQ only. So it's happy hunting for you on the one that fits between both areas.
