Alright guys, have the patience for someone trying to figure out his audio?
As I'm sure you gathered from the subject, I do not know much about audio except for the very basics. All I know for sure is I like music a lot, but it's never come before speed, but I find myself wanting it more and more.
Here's my setup:
-Crane headunit w/ CD and Radio (this definetly needs to be replaced because the CDs skip badly on any kind of bump)
-Stock sailpanel speakers (for some reason these to me sound really good, but I'm sure there's a million speakers that are better)
-I've removed all the heater ducting under the dashboard so I took out the little speakers there, but still have them. I believe they're Kenwoods, but they were never plugged in so I'm not sure if they work or not. I also am not sure if there's any way for me to mount speakers under there anymore because all the ductings gone, so I'm thinking of just forgeting about that.
So here's what I would like:
-I want a new headunit that has all sorts of cool settings and flashy graphics (Sorry, I know this is kinda silly, but it's for the ladies
) and a CD player obviously
-I want new rear speakers that have REALLY good bass, but still has a nice high end.
I like Vintage rock like Led Zepplin and Eric Clapton, but if I hear Big Pimpin' come on I can't help myself but to crank up the bass and listen to that. (If that helps you decide what kind of system I need)
Since I only want to run a pair of speakers, would it be benifical if I got a nice amp for the pair?
I guess I might be into the idea of adding a subwoofer or 2, but it has to be where the rear seats are... The cargo area is going to be filled with a nitrous bottle, roll cage, and fuel cell. I'm not sure if that's an optimum place to put those there though.
So, that's what I have and what I'd like. Basically to sum it all up, I want a CD player and a good range of sound, but some nice downlow. Money is definetly an issue too, since like I said before, music doesn't come before speed.

I have an alpine head unit, old school model with the BBE chip(fantasic fidelity),in the back I have a pair of 3way 6x9s,an average pair of kenwoods.I mounted them in the trunk lid to take advantage of the acoustics.some people don't want to cut holes in their trunk panels to do this and don't think it sounds good,it has worked out really well for me.some people ,that don't know any better, think I have a sub somewhere, because of the resonant effects of the hatch area. I power those with aan alpine V12 75x2 rms amp. I bought everything openbox at circuit city for less than $500,with extended service ofcourse
. I'm not trying to brag or anything, but it does sound damn good for the money.unfortunatley I havent done anything about the fronts, which are still stock and powered by my head unit,I just adjust the fade 1/3 to the rear to even it out.you should hook those speakers up and see what you got,if your trying to impress girls with your car,you really shouldn't remove the climate control system.I don't know what part of the country you live in,but sooner or later you might want your defroster.check out the tech artical about installing aftermarket "deep-magnet" 5.25" speakers in your dash.there are two good ways mentioned.if you really want to lose your vents...,you could fit anything you want up there.good luck, hope I can help.....and please don't put a fuel cell inside your car
, I prefer to keep a mini fire extinguisher inside my car.

sorry, don't know anybody from fox grove...
I also don't drive the car unless it's hotter than 60* out and it's sunny so I'm not really worried about the climate control
I'm just looking to have something I can jam to while I'm beating the stangs
or anybody that wants to race me...

Pioneer in my opinion makes good head units for a decent price. (They have the flashy lights too). Putting in aftermarket speakers certainly helps (Pioneer, Kenwood give good sound for the buck). I suggest you get a good 4 channel amp to hook up to those speakers. As for subs, many people fold down the back seat and use that area for a box for their speakers and amps. I think it looks lousy, but thats my opinion. Just my thoughts....

Alright all this is found online at www.mmxpress.com . They are very reputable and have a good cusotmer service department. But are unauthorized as are all online dealers which means little tech support and no warrenty. If this matters then you might want to go to a accual store front and make sure they are authorized. You can haggle alot at these places and get a good deal.
Head unit: Pioneer DEH-310 $170.00
front speakers: Pioneer TS-P462 $97.00
Rear Speakers: Pioneer TS-A6959 $74.00
This comes to $341.00 and will sound pretty decent. There is room for improvement but I left some money for wires and installation if you aren't going to do it yourself.
If you want to add a sub later:
Sub: Audiobahn AWP212 $142.62
amp: Pheonix Gold QX2350 $255.00
This will hit really well together and look sweet.
Later,
Jim
