Under Hood sound dampening
Under the hood there is factory multilayer black sound deadening sheet. I am not sure of the material, but was wondering if replacing it with Dynamat extreem would show an improvement over this. Yes, the idea is to not hear the engine(please no flames). Thanx

That pad is a heat insulator and does basically nothing for sound deadening. Unless your exhaust leaks, you motor isn't loud anyway. Pop your hood and sit in the car and it probably won't be any louder than with the hood down.

I doubt you would notice a difference between the stock matt and the dynomat. However, it my be better visually, esp if the stock matt is getting ratty looking.
I just took mine out all together. After i removed mine, i did notice a slight increase in noise, mostly at idle with the windows down.

The Dynamat people do make a special hood liner material called Dynaliner, I'm pretty sure. You might want to check that out.
I'm not sure if regular Dynamat would withstand the heat in the engine compartment. If you do use it, you could still install a new GM hoodliner over it for a factory appearance.

I really could care less about the 'factory'look. I am not into restoring it, I think it is kind of a waste of money. I merely want the best performance. The dynamt is extreem, and it say's it is made for under the hood as well. It says it is more powerful than thier previous line of dynamat and dynawhatever. I was really wanting to know if this was an area that generated a lot of noise. It takes a little over 20 ft sq. for the hood, and It is like 40some dollars for my cost ($5 more than a factory replacement). The one in there looks okay, but I am trying to sighlence my car.. Thanx for the input

hmm now i know my hood was replaced. its all oxidized, and has no insulation, and has the bright blue color near the hinge. i have heard that no heat insulation makes a color fade prematurely on fiberglass hoods. is this true of steel ones too? my dad buffed out a spot on the hood and it looked exactly like the fender. i still dont know why it was replaced, and i dont really care, but i do want to get some insulation. and fix those little fake air inlets. the grilles are loose.
and actually i knew when i saw the blue by the hinge.

T-5 tranny. thank god, i couldnt stand an LG4 auto.
Plans for an LT-1 or LT-4,
also plans for dual flowmaster exaust.
Got a corvette when i was 16, paid for it myself, screwed the engine up (idiot light didnt work, and i trusted the guy when he said he just changed the oil), and it turned into a project car.
now my TA is my daily driver. not a bad one, but it needs to be faster.

Hey man, Why not put both? Not just for a factory look, but, also that much more sound deadening and insulation.
