I'm putting my car back together for summer, and these cloth speaker insulation pods are in pretty rough shape. They are falling apart and nasty. I am thinking about lining the inner parts of the sail panel with dynamat or some similar vibration dampener as a replacement, not sure if that will be as effective though. Anyone else had to make a replacement?

 

They make/sell baffles to go behind speakers. Try Crutchfield or a generic Google search. The stock 'enclosures' are some kind of pressed molded composite, right there with the headliner backing, not something that will last forever.

I've used these in a door of a different vehicle once. They so greatly sealed the speaker that it totally ruined the sound. I took them out and threw them in the trash. These seal almost airtight, but flex with speaker movement. Throw a loose speaker into a big pillow and that's what it sounds like.

 

Note that even the original parts have a giant hole punched in them.
